A Turbine Operator (or Turbine Field Operator) in a power plant is a hands-on technical role responsible for the protected operation, monitoring, and maintenance of turbines, generators, and auxiliary systems. They work on-site to inspect machinery, control start/stop procedures, manage lubrication and cooling systems, and ensure compliance with safety protocols such as LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) and PTW (Permit to Work). - Field Operations: Conduct regular, detailed inspections (rounds) of turbines, generators, lubrication systems, seal oil, and cooling systems to monitor vibration, temperature, and pressure.
- Operational Control: Perform start-up, shutdown, and synchronization of steam turbines, ensuring accurate synchronization with the power grid.
- Parameter Management: Adjust turbine speed and load based on demand or instructions from the control room.
- Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Perform routine maintenance (lubrication, tightening joints) and assist in handling emergency shutdowns or tripping scenarios.
- Safety Adherence: Strictly follow safety protocols, including LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) for maintenance and PTW (Permit to Work) for hazardous tasks.

Job Skills & Qualifications
- Education: A technical qualification, typically an ITI or Diploma in mechanical or electrical engineering, is usually required.
- Experience:
Previous experience in power generation, specifically with steam turbines, turbines-generators, or within a Captive Power Plant (CPP) or thermal plant.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of turbine systems, hydraulic governing systems, and high-pressure steam systems.
