Key responsibilities include cutting and shaping metal, laying out and marking parts, tack-welding assemblies, and ensuring all parts fit together according to specifications before permanent assembly by welders or other trades. This physically demanding role requires skills in reading blueprints, using hand tools and power equipment, and strict adherence to safety protocols. Core responsibilities

- Blueprint interpretation: Analyze blueprints and other technical drawings to understand project specifications and dimensions.

- Material preparation: Cut, shape, and mark raw materials like steel plates, angle iron, and I-beams using tools such as cutting torches, shears, and drills.

- Assembly: Position and align structural components, often using temporary tack welds, and file, chisel, or grind parts to achieve a perfect fit.

- Fitting: Assemble multiple parts into larger subassemblies, ensuring they meet the required specifications and tolerances (often to within a few millimeters).

- Site erection: Assist with the erection of structures at the construction site, sometimes by positioning members with connecting pins to ensure they fit together correctly.

- Safety and maintenance: Adhere to all safety rules, wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE), maintain a clean work environment,



and keep tools and equipment in valuable working order.

Skills and qualifications
- Technical skills: Ability to read and interpret blueprints, knowledge of shop math, and proficiency with hand tools and machinery like drills, grinders, and cutting torches.

- Physical ability: Must be physically fit and able to perform demanding tasks, including heavy lifting and working in various positions and environments, sometimes at heights.
