A Robotic Welding Engineer/Technician programs, calibrates, and maintains automated welding systems (like FANUC or Motoman) to maximize production efficiency and weld consistency. They bridge the gap between mechanical robotics and metallurgy by troubleshooting technical issues and adjusting welding parameters like wire feed speed and gas flow.

Core Responsibilities

- Programming & Operation: Program, teach, and optimize robotic welding paths using teach pendants for GMAW (MIG), GTAW (TIG), and FCAW processes.

- Troubleshooting: Recover robots from fault conditions, diagnose mechanical/electrical malfunctions, and adjust parameters to correct weld defects.

- Quality Assurance: Interpret blueprints, schematics, and Weld Procedure Specifications (WPS) to verify parts meet geometric and structural tolerances.

- Maintenance: Perform routine preventative maintenance on robotic arms, weld cells, and peripheral equipment to minimize downtime.

Technical Specifications

- Welding Processes: GMAW, GTAW, FCAW, SAW, and Resistance Spot Welding.

- Equipment: 6-axis articulated robots,



weld controllers, wire feeders, and automated fixtures.

- Software/Controls: Teach pendants, CAD/CAM integration, and PLC basic interfaces.

- Safety Protocols: OSHA/ISO standards, Laser/Arc flash protection, and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.

Qualifications & Requirements

- Education: Associate’s degree in Robotics, Mechatronics, or Welding Technology (or equivalent experience).

- Experience: 2–5 years of hands-on experience in robotic welding or industrial automation.

- Certifications: American Welding Society (AWS) certifications (e.g., CWI or CW) are highly preferred.
