Responsibilities:
- Participate in the clinical assessment and initial evaluation of oncology patients, including history taking, physical examination, and performance status evaluation.
- Assist in the interpretation of diagnostic CT and MRI scans for target volume delineation and organ-at-risk identification.
- Collaborate in the development of individualized radiation treatment plans under supervision, utilizing advanced treatment planning systems.
- Perform dose calculation and optimization for external beam radiation therapy (EBRT) and brachytherapy procedures.
- Support treatment delivery on LINAC systems, ensuring accurate patient positioning, immobilization, and image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT) protocols.
- Monitor patients during treatment sessions for acute side effects and manage early signs of toxicity in coordination with the oncology team.
- Assist in brachytherapy procedures, including catheter placement, dosimetry planning, and intraoperative imaging.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in electronic medical records (EMR) and treatment planning systems.
- Participate in multidisciplinary tumor board meetings to discuss patient cases and treatment strategies.
- Ensure compliance with radiation safety protocols, equipment maintenance logs, and regulatory standards.
- Engage in continuous learning through journal reviews, case discussions,
and departmental training sessions.
Requirements:
- MBBS degree with completion of internship and registration with the Medical Council of India (or equivalent).
- Completion of or current enrollment in a postgraduate training program in Radiation Oncology (e.g., MD/DM in Radiation Oncology) or equivalent clinical residency.
- Demonstrated understanding of radiation oncology principles, including treatment planning, dose distribution, and radiobiology.
- Proficiency in interpreting CT and MRI imaging for tumor localization and treatment volume definition.
- Hands-on experience or training in LINAC-based treatment delivery, including simulation, immobilization, and image guidance.
- Familiarity with brachytherapy techniques and dosimetry principles (high-dose rate or low-dose rate).
- Competency in dose calculation methods (manual, semi-automated, and algorithm-based).
- Robust clinical judgment in recognizing and managing acute radiation toxicities (e.g., mucositis, dermatitis, hematologic changes).
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team including medical physicists, radiation therapists, and oncology nurses.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and time management skills.
- Willingness to work in a fast-paced, high-volume clinical environment with rotating shifts and on-call responsibilities.
- Proficiency in using hospital EMR systems and radiation oncology-specific software (e.g., Eclipse, RayStation, or similar).
