A Lab Head of Department (HOD) for a Coal Washery leads laboratory operations to test raw, washed, and reject coal samples. They ensure accurate process optimization, strict product quality control, regulatory compliance, and equipment calibration, while managing the laboratory team. Key Responsibilities

- Quality Management & Testing: Supervise rigorous testing to meet strict customer specifications. This includes conducting Proximate Analysis (moisture, ash, volatile matter, fixed carbon), Ultimate Analysis (carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, sulfur, oxygen), and Gross Calorific Value (GCV) testing.
- Operational Optimization: Provide actionable, timely data to production teams to adjust washery machinery (e.g., jigs, cyclones) and optimize yield.
- Lab Management:



Manage daily lab operations and oversee the calibration and maintenance of equipment like Muffle Furnaces and Bomb Calorimeters.
- Safety & Compliance: Ensure adherence to environmental, statutory, and safety regulations for chemical handling and waste disposal.
- Team Leadership & Reporting: Train staff, maintain high standards, and prepare daily/monthly quality reports for plant management.
