Rather than offering generic intelligence, Apprentice focuses on understanding user-specific standards, methods, preferences, and the context behind their tasks. Through a voice-first interface, it enables natural collaboration across users’ applications while keeping files, memory, and indexes on their own devices. A bring-your-own-key setup allows users to connect directly to preferred AI providers, creating a persistent intelligence layer that follows them across devices, models, and applications. Apprentice is currently in beta on macOS and continues to evolve its technology to maintain a continuous understanding of each user.
Role Description The Ontologist role at Apprentice is a part-time, hybrid position based in New Delhi, with flexibility for some work-from-home arrangements. The Ontologist will design, develop, and maintain ontologies, taxonomies, and metadata schemas to support personalized AI understanding of user workflows.



Day-to-day responsibilities include analyzing user data and knowledge structures, modeling entities and relationships, and aligning domain ontologies with product features and engineering requirements. The role also involves collaborating with product, engineering, and design teams to embed semantic models into system architecture, improve information retrieval, and refine the intelligence layer across devices and applications. The Ontologist will document standards, ensure consistency in terminology, and contribute to best practices in knowledge organization and semantic interoperability.
Qualifications
Robust skills in Ontology Engineering and Semantic Web technologies for modeling entities, relationships, and knowledge graphs.
Experience with Taxonomy and Metadata design for organizing information, labeling content, and supporting efficient retrieval.
