The VP for Iron Ore Mine (or VP of Mining Operations) is a senior executive responsible for overseeing all aspects of the mine's operations, strategy, safety, and financial performance, ensuring alignment with the company's long-term goals. Key Responsibilities

- Strategic Planning and Management: Develop and implement comprehensive operational strategies, annual mine plans, and budgets to drive production efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and business growth.
- Operational Oversight: Direct and control all daily mine activities, including exploration, production (mining and processing/milling), and logistics, to meet or exceed production goals.
- Safety, Health, and Environment (HS&E;): Champion a robust safety culture and ensure strict compliance with all environmental, legal, and corporate HS&E; standards and regulations.
- Financial Management: Manage operational and capital (CapEx) budgets, monitor cost control, and prepare financial reports (P&L; statements) for senior leadership and the board of directors.
- Leadership and Team Development: Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing management team and technical staff (e.g., engineering, geology, environmental).
- Regulatory Compliance and Stakeholder Relations: Ensure adherence to all relevant government regulations (e.g., THE MINES AND MINERALS (DEVELOPMENT AND REGULATION) ACT, 1957) and manage relationships with government bodies, local authorities, and community stakeholders.




- Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement opportunities to improve productivity, efficiency, and operational processes using methodologies like Lean or Six Sigma.
- Technical and Project Management: Provide technical guidance for the engineering and geology teams, oversee major projects (e.g., new mine development, infrastructure construction), and manage vendor/contractor relationships.

Essential Qualifications and Skills
- Education: A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mining Engineering, Geology, or a related field is often required.
- Experience: Extensive (typically 10-15+ years) experience in mining operations management, with a proven track record in a senior leadership role, preferably in the iron ore sector.
- Certifications: A First Class Mine Manager's Certificate of Competency (as applicable) may be required.
- Skills: Strong leadership, strategic thinking, problem-solving, decision-making, financial acumen, and excellent communication skills are essential.
- Technical Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of mining software (e.g., Surpac, MinePlan), mine planning, and all relevant mining technologies and best practices.
- Work Environment: Ability to work in a corporate setting as well as visit and potentially work in remote mine site locations.
