A DRP (Direct Reduced Iron) Fitter / SID (Sponge Iron Division) Fitter in a steel manufacturing plant is a specialized mechanical maintenance technician. Their primary role is to ensure the continuous, secure, and efficient operation of heavy machinery used to produce sponge iron (Direct Reduced Iron) from iron ore, such as rotary kilns, cooler systems, and material handling equipment. - Preventative & Breakdown Maintenance: Perform daily inspection, lubrication, and scheduled maintenance on plant equipment to prevent breakdowns.
- Troubleshooting & Repair: Diagnose and resolve mechanical issues, such as conveyor belt damage, gearbox failures, or hydraulic system issues, to minimize downtime.
- Equipment Installation & Fabrication: Install new machinery and fabricate, align, and repair structural steel components.
- ROTARY KILN Maintenance: Perform critical, heavy-duty maintenance tasks on rotary kilns, kiln riding rings, rollers, and cooler machinery.
- Safety Compliance:
Adhere strictly to industrial safety standards and protocols, particularly when working in high-temperature or confined spaces.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of maintenance tasks and prepare reports on equipment status. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Education: ITI in Fitter, Turner, or Machinist trades.
- Experience: 2–10 years of experience in maintenance, preferably within a Sponge Iron (DRI), Power, or Steel industry.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics, gearboxes, conveyor systems, and welding techniques.
- Skill Set: Ability to read technical drawings/blueprints and proficiency in using hand tools and power tools. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
