Commercial Intern
Winvesta · BKC, Mumbai · In-office · 3–4 months
About Winvesta
Winvesta is an AI-native fintech on a mission to make cross-border payments and international investing seamless and affordable for Indians.
We build two live products: a Global Currency Account for Indian exporters receiving payments from foreign clients, and an international investing platform for Indian retail investors. Founded by Swastik Nigam (IIM-A, ex-Deutsche Bank London), Winvesta has been recognised as Fintech Product of the Year 2024, Best Payment Solution 2023, Best Emerging Fintech 2023, and FinTech Company of the Year 2020 for Asia Pacific.
The Reality of the Market
Most people who end up in commercial roles learn the motion — how to run a call, how to manage a pipeline, how to hit a number — without ever understanding the commercial logic underneath it. They learn to execute without understanding why the execution works, which market conditions it depends on, or what to do when those conditions change.
That gap shows up clearly when markets shift, when a product expands into a new segment, or when a pricing model needs to change. The person who only knows the motion is lost. The person who understands the commercial logic underneath it knows exactly what to adjust and why.
This is a role for the second kind of person.
What Winvesta Offers
Winvesta's Global Currency Account solves a specific, painful problem for Indian service exporters — software firms, agencies, consultancies, freelancers — who are losing money on every international payment they receive. The traditional banking system charges them for the privilege of getting paid. Most accept it because they do not know there is a better option.
Building and growing a commercial operation around that product requires someone who can think about the full picture: who are the right clients, what does the economics of acquiring them look like, how should the product be positioned and priced for different segments, and what does a healthy commercial operation actually look like at our scale?
The Commercial Intern at Winvesta works across all of that. You will be involved in commercial strategy and execution simultaneously — thinking about how the commercial model should work and then going out and testing it in the market.
What we offer that is genuinely rare:
You will sit at the intersection of commercial strategy and live market activity — not doing one at the expense of the other.
You will use Claude as a daily work partner — to model commercial scenarios, research market sizing, draft positioning, analyse pipeline data, and prepare for client conversations. The combination of strategic thinking and AI-native execution is the skill set that compounds most rapidly right now. You will develop both here.
You will work directly with the founding team and understand how commercial decisions are made at a real fintech.
The last month of your internship is an explicit adjudication period for a full time offer. Both sides know this from Day 1.
What You Get
- Competitive stipend, disclosed at offer stage
- Direct daily access to the founding team — not a manager two levels removed
- Exposure to both commercial strategy and live execution from week one
- Structured Claude onboarding in your first week, with AI-native skill development throughout
- Formal full-time assessment in the final month, with a clear and honest outcome either way
The Attitude We Need
We look for academic strength first — ideally 90% or above in both 10th and 12th. Commercial thinking at this level requires genuine analytical ability — the capacity to look at a market, understand its structure, and reason about what a business should do within it. That is not a soft skill. It is a rigorous cognitive task, and the academic record is one of the earliest signals of whether that capacity is present.
We also look for quantitative comfort. Commercial work lives in numbers — unit economics, customer acquisition costs, pricing models, revenue projections. You do not need to be a financial analyst, but you need to be someone who finds these numbers interesting rather than intimidating, and who can build and interrogate a simple model.
What we do not specify is a degree stream. Commercial ability comes from many backgrounds. What is not negotiable is a genuine affinity for technology and an AI-native way of working. You have been using Claude as part of your actual daily work — producing analyses, drafting strategy documents, stress-testing commercial assumptions — not as something you have tried occasionally.
If you are the right person for this role, the bar we have described will feel like a reasonable expectation, not an obstacle.
The Role
Commercial analysis — building a clear picture of the market opportunity, the competitive landscape, and the commercial logic of different growth approaches. This is not desk research for its own sake. It feeds directly into decisions the founding team is making right now.
Pricing and positioning work — helping think through how Winvesta's products should be positioned and priced for different client segments, and testing those assumptions in real market conversations.
Pipeline and client activity — taking commercial thinking into the market through outreach, qualification, and early-stage client conversations. The Commercial Intern is not purely analytical.
They test their thinking by going and talking to the market.
Commercial reporting — tracking the metrics that matter, producing the summaries that keep the founding team informed, and flagging the signals that indicate something is working or not working.
Product feedback loop — when client conversations reveal something about what the market needs that the product does not yet offer, bringing that back and making the case for what needs to change.
The work will evolve as the commercial operation grows. The requirement — think clearly, act on it, report honestly — will not.
Proof of Work
We are not looking for a polished CV. We are looking for evidence of commercial thinking that was acted on.
If you have built a commercial analysis, a market sizing model, or a pricing framework — show us what it was and what decision it informed. If you have used Claude to produce commercial work, tell us what you built and what you changed from its first output. If you have taken a commercial idea and tested it in a real conversation or real market activity — tell us that story specifically.
Proof of work does not have to be from a formal role. It has to be real, and you have to be able to tell us what happened because of it.
Qualifications
What we require
- Based in Mumbai, able to commute to BKC daily — this is a fully in-office role
- Active Claude user — must have used it to produce real work outputs before applying, not just tried it
- Comfortable reasoning about commercial and financial problems numerically
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from any degree programme
What we prefer:
- 90% or above in both 10th and 12th
- A specific example of commercial analysis or strategy work that informed a real decision
- Prior exposure to a commercial, strategy, or finance environment — even informally
- Familiarity with fintech, cross-border payments, or Indian export services
