An assistant accountant provides support to senior accountants by performing daily accounting tasks like data entry, accounts payable/receivable processing, and bank reconciliations.

Key responsibilities also include preparing financial documents such as invoices and expense reports, maintaining financial records, and assisting with payroll and tax preparation. A successful candidate needs strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.

Key responsibilities

- Manage daily transactions: Process invoices, payments, and reimbursements; handle accounts payable and receivable.

- Maintain financial records: Accurately enter data into accounting systems, update ledgers, and organize financial documents (both digital and physical).

- Perform reconciliations: Reconcile bank statements and monitor transactions for discrepancies.

- Assist with payroll: Verify employee hours and benefits, and assist with processing payroll.

- Support financial reporting: Help prepare financial statements, budget forecasts,



and other reports.

- Aid with audits and taxes: Assist with tax preparation and filing, and provide support during quarterly and annual audits by gathering and presenting documents.

- Ensure compliance: Maintain up-to-date financial records and ensure they comply with company policies and regulations.

Qualifications and skills

- Education:

An Associate's degree in accounting or finance is often the minimum, with a Bachelor's degree preferred for advancement.

- Experience:

Previous experience in an accounting support role is beneficial.

- Technical skills:

Proficiency in accounting software (like QuickBooks, SAP) and Microsoft Excel is essential.

- Soft skills:

Robust attention to detail, organizational skills, time management, and analytical abilities are crucial for success.
