Reporting to: Programme Associate

Location: Current Delhi office

Purpose

CEEW is currently seeking a Research Analyst to join its Technology Futures team, focusing on international developments in China and Southeast Asia concerning political and economic developments, trade and non-trade barriers, and analysing their impact on the domestic clean energy and critical minerals sector. The role requires the candidate to possess a strong understanding of economic and trade concepts, along with strategic thinking skills to connect the dots and deliver well-informed recommendations. The analysis will later inform trade negotiations, industry, and relevant government stakeholders.

Job Duties and Accountabilities

Research and analysis

- Track key trade announcements in China and Southeast Asia, regarding trade and non-trade barriers specific to clean energy manufacturing and critical minerals.

- Monitor international agreements of China, regional partnerships,



and policy shifts that may influence India's trade or energy security interests. This includes MoUs, ministerial meetings, free trade agreements (FTAs), and trade disputes.

- Have a good grasp on the psyche of East Asian politics to analyse political announcements and take leadership in being an in-house specialist in East Asian politics.

- Conduct impact assessments of international trade dynamics on India's domestic industries and clean energy goals.

- Track key narratives on tariffs, standards, supply chain, clean energy etc that are developing in China

- Develop strategic insights and evidence-based recommendations for stakeholders, including trade negotiators, industry leaders, and government bodies.

Programme Assistance

- Track international, political, business, and trade-related technological developments in the clean energy and critical mineral sector.

- Assist with programme structuring and project implementation, including preparing presentations, factsheets and other communication material.

- Assist with the ongoing projects of the team by compiling data and providing relevant analysis.

Selection Criteria

Qualification

- Master's degree or a bachelor's degree in economics/international relations/East asian studies or China studies/East asian language specialisation.

- Proficiency in Mandarin proficiency is a must





- Strong understanding of Chinese governance systems, international trade and geopolitical trends.

Work Experience

- The candidate is expected to have 1-2 years of relevant experience.

Main skills

- Develop a strong understanding of the Chinese clean energy sector (solar PV, wind, battery, green hydrogen).

- Strong work management and prioritisation skills.

- Ability to ‘connect the dots’ between research and real-world developments.

- Interest in adding value in conversations, meetings and interactions.

- Ability to present the work lucidly.

- Creative thinker with demonstrated success in implementing out-of-the-box content ideas.

- Demonstrated abilities to manage multiple priorities, projects and internal/external resources in a fast-paced environment while meeting deadlines and quality standards.
