We're looking for a Senior FinOps Engineer to drive cloud financial accountability, optimization, and transparency across AWS-based platforms and services. You'll partner closely with Engineering and Finance stakeholders to turn cloud consumption into actionable insights, influence cost-efficient architecture and design decisions, and deliver reliable forecasting, reporting, and financial governance.

This role combines deep cloud engineering expertise with financial modeling, unit economics, data analytics, and executive communication. The initial focus will be on AWS, with the opportunity to expand over time into Azure, GCP, managed services, and on-premises infrastructure across compute, storage, data center, and network environments.

What You'll Do

Cost Optimization & Cloud Financial Engineering

- Analyze AWS usage and cost drivers at the service, application, and workload levels.
- Establish cost baselines, unit economics, efficiency benchmarks, and optimization targets.
- Identify, prioritize, and drive optimization opportunities across compute, storage, networking, databases, containers, and managed services.
- Lead initiatives such as rightsizing, instance-family modernization, storage tiering, idle-resource elimination, and architectural refactoring.
- Measure and validate savings, performance impact, and long-term sustainability of optimization initiatives.
- Optimize Amazon EKS costs through cluster and node sizing, autoscaling efficiency, workload placement, resource allocation, and capacity planning.
- Evaluate and optimize AWS pricing constructs, including Savings Plans, Reserved Instances, and Spot Instances, based on workload patterns, reliability requirements, and demand forecasts.

Forecasting, Financial Modeling & Reporting

- Develop and maintain cloud financial models supporting budgeting, forecasting, scenario analysis, and long-range planning.
- Partner with Finance to correlate technical consumption data with financial outcomes and improve variance analysis and executive reporting.
- Build and evolve cost-transparency models, including chargeback/showback, workload-level P&L; views, and unit-cost metrics.
- Define and monitor FinOps KPIs such as unit cost, utilization, savings realized, commitment coverage, and forecast accuracy.
- Establish recurring monthly and quarterly cloud cost review cadences with Engineering and Finance.
- Lead commitment planning for Savings Plans and Reserved Instances and validate savings after implementation.
- Produce recurring and ad-hoc reports for senior leadership covering spend trends, savings realization, risks, forecast changes, and optimization progress.

FinOps Operations & Governance

- Implement and maintain cloud cost allocation, tagging standards, account structures, and governance controls to ensure accurate attribution of cloud spend.




- Own and improve cloud cost data quality, allocation models, AWS Organizations/account structures, tagging coverage, and cost-category strategies.
- Manage AWS Cost & Usage Report (CUR) datasets and enable cost analytics using SQL, Amazon Athena, AWS Glue, and related data services.
- Implement proactive cost controls using AWS Budgets, AWS Cost Anomaly Detection, alerts, and automated monitoring.
- Investigate unexpected cost variances and drive corrective actions to prevent recurring spend surprises.
- Develop dashboards, alerts, and automated reporting using AWS-native capabilities and approved FinOps platforms.
- Monitor cost trends, savings sustainability, optimization drift, and commitment utilization.
- Embed cost-aware design patterns into reference architectures, landing zones, infrastructure standards, and build templates.

Stakeholder Partnership & Enablement

- Serve as a senior FinOps subject matter expert and trusted advisor to Engineering, Product, Finance, and technology leadership.
- Advise engineering teams on cloud economics, pricing models, resource utilization, and cost-performance tradeoffs.
- Lead architecture and financial reviews that balance cost, performance, reliability, scalability, and security.
- Educate Engineering and Product teams on FinOps principles, best practices, and financial accountability.
- Influence engineering decisions without direct authority and drive measurable outcomes across multiple teams.
- Contribute to the evolution of the FinOps operating model, governance standards, engineering playbooks, and cloud financial practices.

Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- 10+ years of experience in cloud engineering, infrastructure/platform engineering, FinOps, or related technology disciplines, with exposure to IT financial management.
- Proven ability to operate as a senior individual contributor and influence outcomes across multiple engineering, finance, and business stakeholders.
- Deep hands-on experience with AWS services, including EC2, EKS, RDS, S3, Lambda, networking, and managed services.
- Solid experience with Kubernetes/EKS cost allocation and optimization, including namespaces, labels, node groups, autoscaling, workload placement, and rightsizing.
- Strong understanding of AWS pricing models, billing constructs,



and cloud cost optimization mechanisms.
- Experience with AWS FinOps tooling and data sources, including:
- AWS Cost Explorer
- AWS Budgets
- AWS Cost Anomaly Detection
- AWS Cost & Usage Report (CUR)
- Strong SQL and data-analysis skills, with experience building cloud cost analytics using Amazon Athena, AWS Glue, Amazon QuickSight, or equivalent data and BI platforms.
- Proven experience with financial modeling, forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis related to IT or cloud spend.
- Hands-on experience implementing FinOps practices, including cost allocation, tagging, showback/chargeback, commitment management, and optimization governance.
- Advanced analytical and reporting skills, with the ability to translate complex technical and financial data into clear recommendations for both technical and executive audiences.
- Strong communication, presentation, stakeholder-management, and influencing skills.
- FinOps Foundation Practitioner or Professional certification preferred, or equivalent demonstrated expertise.

Preferred Experience

- Experience operating FinOps programs in large-scale, multi-account AWS environments.
- Experience with cloud cost allocation across business units, products, applications, or engineering teams.
- Experience with multi-cloud environments involving Azure and/or GCP.
- Experience integrating cloud cost data with enterprise financial systems, data warehouses, or BI platforms.
- Experience automating FinOps processes using APIs, SQL, Python, Infrastructure as Code, or cloud-native automation.
- Understanding of cloud unit economics and cost-per-transaction, cost-per-customer, cost-per-workload, or similar business-aligned metrics.
- Experience influencing architecture decisions through cost-performance analysis and business-case development.
