About the Finance Function:
By joining the Finance team within the Global Capability Centre (GCC), you will play a direct role in supporting Officeworks' growth and performance. You'll contribute to high quality financial capabilities that sit at the heart of how the business plans, invests, governs, and delivers value.
The GCC is a critical enabler of Officeworks' purpose by ensuring strong financial stewardship, insight driven decision making, and operational discipline that supports sustainable success.
This is a unique opportunity to join as a founding member of a newly established global hub. Early joiners will help shape how the finance function operates within the GCC, influencing future ways of working, capability development, and the evolution of some of Officeworks' core finance processes.

Why this role exists:
The Senior Financial Accountant - Box of Books holds primary accountability for the integrity, accuracy, and technical excellence of financial results for the Box of Books business. This role acts as a senior technical lead, overseeing complex month-end processes and statutory reporting while ensuring full compliance with Australian Accounting Standards. Beyond core accounting,



this senior position is responsible for driving the strategic evolution of the control environment, leading automation initiatives, and providing high-level technical mentorship to help the business scale effectively.
Where you will make a difference:
In this role you will:
Financial Accounting & Reporting:
Direct and oversee the end-to-end month-end closing process for the Box of Books ledger, ensuring precision in all financial entries.
Ensure total compliance with Australian Accounting Standards (AASB), particularly regarding complex revenue recognition adjustments and technical reporting.
Lead sophisticated variance analysis of actuals versus forecast, providing senior leadership with deep insights into financial performance drivers and strategic recommendations.
Oversee intercompany reconciliation and elimination, ensuring zero material discrepancies across balances.
Manage banking and rebate complexities, including school-specific financial reconciliations and refunds.
Governance, Risk & Technical Compliance:
Own the integrity of the internal control framework, performing high-level reviews of complex balance sheet reconciliations and safeguards.
Lead the preparation of statutory financial statements and comprehensive workpapers for half-year and year-end audits.
Serve as the primary technical contact for external auditors, managing sample evidence and audit queries with high-level documentation.
Review and ensure the accuracy of monthly tax submissions, including the Business Activity Statement (BAS), to the Australia Taxation Office.
Ensure strict compliance with Officeworks and Wesfarmers Group policies.
Strategic Process Improvement & Systems Leadership:
Architect and drive continuous improvement initiatives to significantly reduce manual intervention and reporting lead times.
Lead the implementation of advanced automation within month-end workpapers to enhance team-wide efficiency.
Standardize and govern Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)



for all critical financial accounting tasks.
Act as a Lead Subject Matter Expert (SME) for finance transformation projects and major ERP upgrades.
Stakeholder Engagement & Mentorship:
Navigate complex stakeholder landscapes, acting as a senior bridge between IT, leadership, and external consultants.
Mentor junior team members to enhance commercial understanding and technical accuracy.
Who you will be working with:
Internal Delivery Teams: Lead and collaborate with Assistant Accountant.
Internal Partners: Senior leadership across Box of Books and Officeworks, including Tax, Store Operations, banking and AP/AR functions.
External Partners: External Auditors, and external consultants.
What success looks like:
Reporting Accuracy: Zero material adjustments post-period end and total integrity in statutory reporting.
Technical Excellence: Successful audit completions with minimal management letter points and high-quality workpapers.
Operational Speed: All complex reconciliations completed and reviewed within 10 business days of month-end.
Project Impact: Successful delivery of automation and transformation initiatives that measurably scale the business.

Qualifications and work experience:
Essential:
Qualifications: CPA/CA or similar qualification.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years in financial accounting, with a history of managing complex ledgers and technical reporting.
Technical Mastery: Expert knowledge of technical accounting standards (AASB/IFRS) and processes.
Systems Expertise: Advanced proficiency in SAP, Netsuite, Blackline, and BW.
Attributes: Strong attention to detail, proactive solution-seeking, and the ability to lead technical workflows.
Preferred:
Industry: Experience in the retail industry is highly desirable.
Systems: Experience with One Stream is highly advantageous.
