Martlet AI builds the AI infrastructure that automates risk adjustment and HCC chart review. Our platform pairs a deterministic NLP/SLM pipeline with a MEAT-linked HCC engine to surface accurate, auditable, and RADV-defensible codes at scale — already running in production at leading health systems and processing tens of thousands of clinical documents every day. We are a technology platform, not a coding-services vendor: we build the software that makes expert coders faster, more accurate, and audit-ready.
The Role
We're looking for a Certified Medical Coder with deep HCC and DRG expertise to serve as the clinical ground truth behind our platform. This is not a high-volume production coding seat. You'll validate and refine the AI's coding output, build the gold-standard datasets that train and benchmark our models, and ensure every code our engine surfaces stands up to RADV-level scrutiny. Your expertise will directly shape technology that scales to millions of charts.
Key Responsibilities
Validate AI-generated HCC and DRG codes against source clinical documentation and MEAT criteria
Build, curate, and maintain gold-standard coded datasets to train, test, and benchmark our models
Perform QA on the deterministic HCC engine and DRG logic, identifying and documenting edge cases
Partner with product and engineering to translate coding and compliance requirements into platform logic




Refine and strengthen MEAT validation and RADV audit-readiness workflows
Review model outputs for accuracy, specificity, and compliance; provide structured feedback to improve precision and recall
Bring the working coder's perspective to the design of the coder review interface
Stay current on CMS-HCC model updates (including V28), ICD-10 guidelines, and DRG methodology changes
Required Qualifications
Active AAPC certification — CPC required
3+ years of hands-on medical coding experience
Demonstrated HCC / risk adjustment coding experience, including the CMS-HCC V28 model
Strong command of ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS
Working knowledge of MEAT documentation standards and risk adjustment compliance
Excellent attention to detail and explicit documentation of coding rationale
Preferred Qualifications
CRC (Certified Risk Adjustment Coder) — strongly preferred
DRG / inpatient coding experience (MS-DRG and/or APR-DRG); CIC a plus
RADV audit experience
Experience with NLP, AI, or computer-assisted coding (CAC) tools
Comfort in a fast-paced startup working alongside technical teams
