Job Description – Cambridge IGCSE English Teacher

Position: Cambridge IGCSE English Teacher

Department: Academics

Location: Dalhousie Public School, New Chandigarh

Employment Type: Full-Time

Reports To: Head of Department / Academic Head

About the Role

Dalhousie Public School, New Chandigarh, is looking for a passionate, experienced and academically strong Cambridge IGCSE English Teacher to join its growing international curriculum team. The ideal candidate will have a strong command of the English language and a student centred approach to teaching. The role involves delivering engaging and rigorous English lessons aligned with the Cambridge IGCSE curriculum, while developing students' reading, writing, speaking, listening, critical thinking and analytical skills.

Key Responsibilities

- Plan and deliver engaging, structured and age-appropriate Cambridge IGCSE English lessons.
- Develop students' proficiency in reading, writing, speaking and listening.
- Teach students to analyse literary and non-literary texts critically and effectively.
- Develop students' vocabulary, grammar, communication and academic writing skills.
- Encourage independent thinking, creativity, discussion and confident expression.
- Prepare lesson plans, teaching resources, assignments, assessments and revision material in accordance with Cambridge requirements.
- Familiarize students with the Cambridge IGCSE assessment objectives, examination format and marking criteria.
- Prepare students effectively for IGCSE examinations through regular practice, feedback and targeted intervention.
- Use a variety of teaching methodologies, including discussions, presentations, debates,



cooperative learning and technology-enabled learning.
- Conduct regular formative and summative assessments and maintain accurate academic records.
- Provide constructive and timely feedback to students and guide them on areas for improvement.
- Identify students who require additional academic support and implement appropriate intervention strategies.
- Encourage high-performing students through enrichment activities and advanced academic challenges.
- Maintain a positive, inclusive and intellectually stimulating classroom environment. Integrate contemporary issues, diverse texts and real-world contexts into classroom learning wherever appropriate.
- Participate in departmental planning, curriculum development and academicreviews. Contribute to school activities, assemblies, clubs, literary events, competitions and other co-curricular programmes.
- Maintain effective communication with parents regarding student progress,wherever required.
- Stay updated with developments in Cambridge International curriculum, assessment practices and teaching methodologies.

Qualifications & Experience

- Bachelor's or Master's degree in English or a relevant subject.
- B.Ed. or equivalent teaching qualification from a recognised institution.
- 3–5 years of relevant teaching experience, preferably with Cambridge IGCSE English.
- Candidates with experience teaching Cambridge International programmes will bepreferred.
- Familiarity with Cambridge IGCSE assessment and examination requirements is highly desirable.
- Relevant Cambridge IGCSE training must be completed.
