About Compliance Engineering

Compliance Engineering is a global team of more than 300 engineers and scientists who work on the most complex, mission-critical problems. We build and operate a suite of platforms and applications that prevent, detect, and mitigate regulatory and reputational risk across the firm.

Our engineers have access to the latest technology and massive amounts of structured and unstructured data, leveraging modern frameworks to build responsive, intuitive front-end and Big Data applications. The firm is making a significant investment to uplift and rebuild the Compliance application portfolio.

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and hands-on Vice President (VP), Full-Stack Engineer to join our Surveillance & Models technology team in Bengaluru. In this role, you will bridge the gap between high-level business strategy and technical execution. You will be responsible for architecting, designing, and delivering scalable, secure, and high-performance full-stack applications.

As a VP-level engineer, you will maintain a robust hands-on presence—actively writing code, contributing to system and application design, reviewing implementations, mentoring engineers, and driving engineering excellence across the entire software development lifecycle (SDLC). You will partner closely with business, product, and engineering stakeholders to build modern platforms that are reliable, maintainable, and aligned with enterprise standards, drawing on your architecture and design background to strengthen technical solutions.

Experience in Generative AI, machine learning, and Large Language Model (LLM) integrations is expected for this role to help build intelligent, AI-enabled engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Technical Leadership & Architecture

- System Design: Architect and design robust, scalable, and secure full-stack applications, microservices, and APIs that align with enterprise standards.
- Technology Strategy: Evaluate emerging technologies, frameworks, and industry trends (including AI-assisted development) to continuously modernize our compliance surveillance technical stack.
- Standards & Governance: Establish and enforce coding standards, architectural principles, and security best practices across frontend and backend systems.
- Design Decisions: Bring a strong architecture and design background to modular design, integration patterns, security, performance, scalability, and long-term maintainability.

2. Hands-on Engineering

- Full-Stack Development: Write clean, maintainable, and high-performance code across both frontend user interfaces and backend services using Java, Python, PySpark, SQL, Hadoop, Snowflake, Iceberg, Kafka, Kubernetes.
- Backend Development: Design and implement scalable microservices.
- Database Management: Optimize database schemas, queries, and data pipelines across both on-prem relational (e.g., DB2, Sybase) and cloud-based (e.g. Snowflake) database platforms.
- API Design & Security: Develop and secure RESTful APIs to facilitate seamless data exchange between internal systems and external partners, ensuring low latency and high availability.
- AI & Intelligent Automation: Apply hands-on experience in Generative AI, machine learning, and large language model (LLM)

integrations to build intelligent features, automate workflows, and enhance user and operational outcomes.
- Partnering with Stakeholders: Apply knowledge of the financial industry and compliance or risk functions to design and improve compliance surveillance models.

3. Team Mentorship & Collaboration

- Mentorship: Mentor engineers and promote a culture of technical excellence, strong design thinking, continuous learning, and operational discipline.
- Code Reviews: Participate in and lead code reviews and technical design discussions to improve quality, maintainability, and consistency across teams.
- Cross-Functional Alignment: Collaborate with product managers, designers, QA, and business stakeholders to convert requirements into sound technical designs and delivery plans.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

Education & Experience

- Experience: 8+ years of progressive experience in full-stack engineering, architecture, or related roles, with a strong track record of building enterprise-grade applications and implementing large-scale, enterprise-level data solutions.
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related quantitative field.

Technical Skills

- Deep hands-on experience with Java or Python, including with Apache Spark and/or Hadoop
- API design and micro-services architecture, such as to create interconnected services
- Experience with Cloud-based data platforms, such as Snowflake
- Exposure to Data Lake or Lakehouse solutions
- Advanced SQL and database skills, including schema design, query optimization, and performance tuning.
- Strong architecture and design background, with knowledge of microservices, API design, secure coding, and distributed systems patterns
- Hands-on experience with Generative AI, machine learning, and LLM-based solutions, including practical use of AI APIs, prompt-driven workflows, intelligent automation, or AI-enabled application features
- Knowledge of the financial industry and compliance or risk functions

Interpersonal Skills

- Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills in complex technical environments.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to engineering, product, and business stakeholders.
- Collaborative working style with experience driving cross-functional initiatives and influencing technical direction.
- Commitment to engineering excellence, automation, and continuous improvement.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards of quality and delivery.
