Job Description – Line Quality Leader (CNC Machining)
Position: Line Quality Leader – CNC Machining
Department: Quality Assurance
Reports To: Head of Quality / Plant Head
Team: 2–5 Quality Inspectors across 2 shifts
Experience: 4–7 Years
Qualification: B.E./B.Tech – Mechanical Engineering
CTC: ₹4.5–6.5 LPA
Employment: Full-time, Permanent
Work Mode: On-site, predominantly shop-floor based
Position Purpose
The Line Quality Leader will be responsible for ensuring that components manufactured through CNC turning and milling processes meet customer specifications consistently across both shifts. The role will focus on process control, measurement integrity, non-conformance reduction, root-cause analysis, and quality team leadership.
Key Responsibilities
1. In-Process & Line Quality
- Conduct first-off inspection and approve machine settings before production.
- Establish patrol inspection frequency, sampling plans and control-plan adherence.
- Exercise line-stop authority when processes are out of control.
- Monitor Cp/Cpk for critical characteristics.
- Ensure identification, segregation and traceability of non-conforming material.
2. Cross-Shift Quality Management
- Develop shift quality point-persons.
- Establish formal shift handover procedures.
- Define escalation rules for quality issues.
- Monitor second-shift quality performance through records and audits.
3. Metrology & Measurement
- Operate and edit existing CMM programs.
- Conduct layout inspection and interpret GD&T; requirements.
- Manage Gauge R&R; studies and calibration schedules.
- Ensure proper measurement techniques and repeatability.
- Maintain metrology-room controls.
4. Customer Complaints & Corrective Action
- Investigate customer complaints using 5-Why, Ishikawa and Is/Is-Not analysis.
- Lead 8D and CAPA activities through permanent closure.
- Prepare technical evidence including measurement data, process evidence and photographs.
- Verify corrective-action effectiveness and horizontal deployment.
5. Incoming & Supplier Quality
- Define incoming inspection plans for raw materials, castings, forgings and bought-out components.
- Verify material test certificates.
- Handle supplier non-conformances and corrective actions.
6. Quality Systems & Documentation
- Maintain control plans, inspection standards, work instructions and records.
- Support PFMEA, PPAP and APQP activities.
- Support internal, customer and certification audits.
- Ensure timely closure of audit observations.
7. Team Leadership
- Supervise and develop 2–5 Quality Inspectors.
- Train operators on self-inspection, drawing interpretation and instrument usage.
- Promote a culture of reporting and preventing defects.

Essential Requirements
- B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.
- 4–7 years of quality experience in CNC machining, covering turning and milling.
- Strong shop-floor experience.
- Excellent knowledge of engineering drawings and GD&T.;
- Hands-on CMM experience and knowledge of VMM, height gauge, micrometers, bore gauges, plug/snap gauges and surface roughness testing.
- Working knowledge of IATF 16949 and ISO 9001.
- Knowledge of Control Plans, PFMEA, PPAP and traceability.
- Practical experience with 8D and CAPA.
- Experience managing inspection teams across shifts.
- Good written English for audit-ready documentation.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with export/overseas customers.
- Experience controlling tolerances of 10 microns or below.
- IATF 16949 Internal Auditor certification.
- Six Sigma Green Belt / SPC knowledge.
- Supplier Quality experience.
- Knowledge of PC-DMIS, Calypso or Modus CMM software.

Performance Expectations
First 90 Days
- Assess inspection practices, gauge status and customer concerns.
- Bring calibration and Gauge R&R; status up to date.
- Implement effective shift handover procedures.
By 6 Months
- Ensure second shift operates to the same quality standards.
- Reduce customer complaint response and closure time.
- Develop an independent shift quality point-person.
By 12 Months
- Reduce in-process rejection and external customer PPM.
- Permanently close recurring defect modes.
- Maintain continuously audit-ready quality documentation.
Working Conditions
- Predominantly shop-floor environment.
- Exposure to machine noise, cutting fluid, coolant mist and metal chips.
- PPE must be worn at all times.
- Standing and movement on the production floor for extended periods.
- Periodic second-shift attendance may be required.
- Extended hours may occasionally be required during audits, containment activities or critical dispatches
Pay: ₹450,000.00 - ₹650,000.00 per year
