About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Test Automation Engineer with 6+ years of experience to design, build, and execute automated test solutions across regulatory and derivatives trade reporting systems. You will bring strong test automation skills — Java, Selenium / Playwright, API testing — combined with solid derivatives market and regulatory reporting domain knowledge, enabling you to design effective, risk-based test strategies that validate trade reporting accuracy, data quality, and regulatory compliance. This is a hands-on technical QE role operating at the intersection of test automation engineering and capital markets regulatory domain expertise.

Key Responsibilities

Test Automation & Framework Development

- Design, build, and maintain scalable test automation frameworks for regulatory trade reporting and derivatives systems — covering UI, API, data, and E2E testing layers.
- Develop Java-based automation scripts using Selenium WebDriver or Playwright — supporting functional, regression, and E2E testing across regulatory reporting applications.
- Build and maintain REST API test automation suites using RestAssured, Karate, or Postman — validating trade reporting API endpoints, field population logic, and regulatory submission services.
- Write SQL-based automated reconciliation test suites — comparing trade report outputs against source system data, golden records, and regulatory submission repositories.
- Build and maintain BDD test frameworks using Cucumber and Gherkin — translating regulatory acceptance criteria into business-readable, automated test scenarios.
- Develop data-driven test frameworks — enabling parameterised validation of trade reports across multiple asset classes, counterparties, reporting dates, and regulatory jurisdictions.
- Integrate automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines — Jenkins, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions — implementing quality gates for regulatory reporting change releases.

Regulatory & Derivatives Testing

- Design and execute comprehensive test strategies for derivatives trade reporting programmes — covering OTC derivatives (IRS, CDS, FX derivatives, equity derivatives), exchange-traded derivatives, and structured products.
- Validate trade report field population — testing derivation logic, transformation rules, and field mapping for MiFID II, EMIR, ASIC Derivative Transaction Rules, CFTC, or equivalent regulatory schemas.
- Conduct end-to-end reconciliation testing — validating trade report outputs from source system through ETL transformation to regulatory submission — identifying breaks, data quality issues, and reporting errors.
- Test regulatory schema compliance — validating trade report XML / JSON outputs against ESMA, ASIC, CFTC, or equivalent regulatory validation rules and field format requirements.
- Validate LEI, UTI, and UPI population — ensuring trade identifiers are accurately derived, validated,

and reported across all reportable instrument types.
- Design and execute regression test packs for regulatory change releases — validating existing trade reporting functionality is unaffected by schema updates, rule amendments, and system changes.
- Test trade lifecycle events — new trades, amendments, cancellations, terminations, novations, and compression events — ensuring accurate regulatory report generation across all lifecycle stages.
- Conduct negative testing — validating regulatory validation rules, error handling, and rejection processing for non-compliant trade report submissions.

Data Validation & Quality

- Write and execute advanced SQL queries for trade report data validation — verifying field population, transformation logic, and submission accuracy across Oracle, SQL Server, or PostgreSQL databases.
- Implement automated data quality checks — completeness, accuracy, consistency, and timeliness — across regulatory trade reporting pipelines and submission workflows.
- Conduct reference data validation — LEI, ISIN, CFI, UPI — ensuring regulatory reports use accurate, current reference data from authoritative sources.
- Validate ETL pipeline transformations — testing source-to-target data mappings, aggregation logic, and exception handling across trade reporting data pipelines.
- Support production data quality monitoring — implementing automated checks that detect and alert on trade report data quality issues in near-real-time.

CI/CD & Shift-Left Quality

- Champion shift-left testing practices — engaging with developers, BAs, and architects early in the delivery lifecycle to define testability requirements and regulatory acceptance criteria.
- Embed quality gates and automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines — ensuring every regulatory reporting change is validated through comprehensive automated checks before reaching production.
- Configure test reporting and observability — Allure, ExtentReports, or ReportPortal — providing clear, actionable quality metrics and regulatory test coverage evidence for governance audiences.
- Support shift-right testing — production monitoring, synthetic testing, and regulatory submission validation strategies for live trade reporting environments.

Stakeholder Collaboration & Delivery

- Collaborate with Regulatory BAs, developers, data engineers, and compliance teams — translating regulatory requirements and data mapping specifications into effective, targeted test scenarios.
- Support UAT planning and execution — assisting business users, compliance officers, and regulatory operations teams with test script development, defect triage, and sign-off activities.
- Manage defect triage and reporting — logging, prioritising, and tracking defects in Jira, providing clear regulatory impact assessment and driving resolution with technology teams.

- Produce clear QA documentation — test plans, test cases, traceability matrices, defect reports, and UAT sign-off evidence aligned to regulatory governance standards.
- Participate in Agile delivery ceremonies — sprint planning, backlog refinement, and retrospectives — as an embedded QE contributing regulatory testing expertise to delivery teams.
- Mentor and coach junior QE team members — sharing automation framework expertise and derivatives regulatory domain knowledge.

What We're Looking For

- 6+ years of test automation experience with a robust focus on regulatory reporting and derivatives capital markets systems in financial services.

- Strong Java automation skills — building production-quality test automation frameworks using Selenium WebDriver or Playwright for regulatory reporting applications.

- Solid derivatives domain knowledge — OTC derivatives (IRS, CDS, FX derivatives, equity derivatives), trade lifecycle events, and regulatory reporting obligations across MiFID II, EMIR, ASIC, or CFTC frameworks.

- Proven REST API testing expertise — RestAssured, Karate, or Postman — validating trade reporting APIs, submission endpoints, and regulatory gateway integrations.

- Advanced SQL skills — complex querying, data reconciliation, and transformation logic validation across Oracle, SQL Server, or PostgreSQL for trade reporting data validation.

- Experience with BDD frameworks — Cucumber / Gherkin — for regulatory acceptance criteria automation.

- Strong CI/CD integration experience — embedding quality gates and automated test suites into Jenkins, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions pipelines.

- Good understanding of regulatory trade reporting schemas — ESMA EMIR Refit, ASIC RG 251, CFTC Part 45 — including XML / JSON field validation and submission requirements.

- Experience with data-driven test framework design — parameterised validation across multiple asset classes, reporting dates, and regulatory jurisdictions.

- Excellent communication and collaboration skills — working effectively with Regulatory BAs, developers, compliance, and operations teams.

Nice to Have

- Experience with trade reporting platforms — DTCC GTR, REGIS-TR, UnaVista, RADAR, or equivalent trade repositories.
- Knowledge of LEI, UTI, and UPI validation — trade identifier testing and regulatory reporting implications.
- Exposure to Calypso, Murex, or equivalent capital markets platforms — understanding trade data extraction and reporting workflows.
- Performance testing experience — JMeter or Gatling — for trade reporting system scalability validation.
- Contract testing experience — Pact or Spring Cloud Contract — for trade reporting microservices API contract validation.
- Knowledge of ETL testing tools — Great Expectations, dbt Tests, or QuerySurge — for trade reporting pipeline quality automation.
- ISTQB Foundation or Advanced — Test Automation Engineer certification.
- Experience with Australian regulatory reporting — ASIC Derivative Transaction Rules and APRA prudential reporting requirements.
- Familiarity with BCBS 239 / RDARR principles — data quality, lineage, and traceability in regulatory reporting validation.
