Job Description – Interventional Cardiologist
Position: Interventional Cardiologist
Department: Cardiology
Location: Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu
Employment Type: Full-Time / Consultant
Reporting To: Head of Cardiology / Medical Director
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and skilled Interventional Cardiologist to join our hospital in Coimbatore. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing comprehensive cardiac care, performing diagnostic and interventional procedures, managing acute cardiac emergencies, and ensuring high-quality patient outcomes.
The role requires strong clinical expertise, sound decision-making, excellent procedural skills, and a patient-centered approach.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate, diagnose, and manage patients with cardiovascular diseases.
- Perform interventional cardiology procedures, including coronary angiography and coronary angioplasty/PCI.
- Manage patients presenting with acute coronary syndrome (ACS), STEMI, NSTEMI, and other cardiac emergencies.
- Perform and interpret cardiac diagnostic procedures and investigations.
- Provide appropriate pre-procedure and post-procedure patient management.
- Participate in emergency cardiac services and on-call duties.
- Manage complications related to cardiac interventions promptly and effectively.
- Coordinate with cardiac surgeons, intensivists, anesthetists, emergency physicians, nurses, and other specialists.
- Maintain accurate and timely patient medical records and procedure documentation.
- Explain diagnosis, treatment options, procedures, risks, and expected outcomes to patients and their families.
- Ensure compliance with hospital clinical protocols, infection-control standards, and patient-safety practices.
- Participate in clinical audits, case discussions, morbidity and mortality meetings, and quality-improvement initiatives.
- Support the development and growth of the hospital's cardiology and cardiac intervention services.
- Mentor and guide junior doctors and medical staff where required.
- Maintain professional knowledge through continuing medical education and current evidence-based practices.
Qualifications
- MBBS from a recognized medical institution.
- MD/DNB in General Medicine or equivalent qualification.
- DM/DNB in Cardiology or equivalent recognized super-specialty qualification.
- Valid registration with the National Medical Commission (NMC) / relevant State Medical Council.
- Fellowship or additional training in Interventional Cardiology is desirable.
Experience
- Minimum 3–5 years of relevant experience in Interventional Cardiology after DM/DNB.
- Experience in coronary angiography and PCI is essential.
- Experience handling cardiac emergencies and critical-care patients is preferred.
- Experience in a reputed multispecialty or cardiac hospital will be an advantage.
