An Inpatient Facility Coder reviews and translates comprehensive hospital medical records into standardized diagnostic (ICD-10-CM) and procedural (ICD-10-PCS) codes. They are responsible for accurately sequencing diagnoses and procedures to assign Medicare Severity-Diagnosis Related Groups (MS-DRGs) for optimal hospital reimbursement, while maintaining high regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

- Clinical Abstraction: Analyze the patient's entire hospital stay, including physician notes, operative records, and pathology reports, to accurately abstract diagnoses and procedures. [1, 2]
- Code Assignment: Translate hospital stays using ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS, along with assigning Present on Admission (POA) indicators and Comorbidities/Complications (CC/MCC). [1, 2]
- Quality & Productivity: Maintain industry-standard accuracy rates of 95% or greater while meeting daily/weekly chart completion productivity metrics. [1, 2]
- Compliance: Adhere to CMS Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS) guidelines, ensuring appropriate facility revenue capture while preventing billing errors. [1, 2]
- Query Process:



Collaborate with healthcare providers and clinical documentation specialists to clarify contradictory or missing documentation. [1]

Qualifications

- Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management (HIM) or a related allied health field.
- Certifications: Active credentialing from recognized bodies like AHIMA or AAPC (e.g., CCS, CIC, RHIA, or RHIT).
- Experience: Minimum 2-5 years of recent acute-care inpatient DRG coding experience.
- Software Proficiency: Strong working knowledge of Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems like Epic, Cerner, or Meditech, as well as computer-assisted coding (CAC) tools.

Technical Skills

- Deep understanding of MS-DRG (Medicare Severity Diagnostic Related Groups) and APR-DRG assignment.
- Knowledge of POA (Present on Admission) indicators, HACs (Hospital Acquired Conditions), and PSIs (Patient Safety Indicators

Pay: ₹40,000.00 - ₹60,000.00 per month
