Working Days: Monday to Saturday
Weekly Off: 2nd and 4th Saturday and Sundays
Working Hours: 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM

1. About the Role

UnPay Innovation Private Limited is seeking a responsible, detail-oriented and proactive Risk, Compliance & Legal Executive to support the Company's risk management, compliance, due diligence and legal coordination functions.

The incumbent will be responsible for conducting and documenting KYC verification, merchant due diligence, employee background verification, risk assessment, compliance monitoring and legal coordination. The role will also involve coordination with banks, financial institutions, regulatory authorities, law-enforcement agencies, external legal counsel and other relevant stakeholders whenever required.

This is a control-oriented position requiring a high level of integrity, confidentiality, analytical ability, documentation discipline and attention to detail.

The ideal candidate should be comfortable dealing with sensitive information and should be capable of identifying inconsistencies, potential fraud indicators, compliance gaps and legal or operational risks and escalating them appropriately.

2. Key ResponsibilitiesA. KYC / KYB Verification & Due Diligence

- Conduct KYC verification of customers, merchants, business partners, vendors and other relevant entities as assigned.
- Review and verify identity, address, business and ownership-related documents.
- Conduct KYB (Know Your Business) checks for merchants and business entities.
- Verify PAN, GST, CIN, incorporation documents, business registrations, bank details and other relevant documents wherever applicable.
- Conduct verification of beneficial ownership and identify relevant persons associated with merchant/business entities.
- Check submitted information against available databases, records and other permissible sources.
- Identify discrepancies, inconsistencies, forged documents, suspicious information or incomplete documentation.
- Ensure that KYC/KYB records are complete, accurate and properly documented.
- Escalate high-risk or unusual cases to the designated reporting authority.
- Maintain proper audit trails for all verification activities.

B. Merchant Background Investigation & Risk Assessment

- Conduct detailed background checks and due diligence on merchants before onboarding or as part of periodic review.
- Review merchant business profile, ownership, operational history and available public information.
- Identify adverse information, litigation indicators, fraud indicators, regulatory concerns or reputational risks.
- Conduct screening and verification as required under the Company's internal risk-management framework.
- Assist in assigning or recommending appropriate merchant risk classifications.
- Monitor existing merchants for material changes in risk profile.
- Investigate red flags identified through transaction behaviour, complaints, internal alerts or other risk indicators.
- Prepare merchant due-diligence reports and submit findings to the appropriate authority.
- Recommend enhanced due diligence wherever required.

C. Employee Background Verification

- Coordinate and conduct pre-employment background verification of employees as per Company policy.
- Verify identity, address, educational qualifications, employment history and other relevant credentials.
- Coordinate reference checks and employment verification where applicable.
- Review discrepancies or adverse findings in background verification reports.
- Escalate material concerns to HR and management.
- Maintain confidentiality of employee verification records.
- Ensure that background verification is completed within the prescribed timelines.




- Maintain appropriate documentation for audit and compliance purposes.

D. Fraud Risk Identification & Investigation Support

- Assist in identifying potential fraudulent activities involving merchants, employees, customers, vendors or other stakeholders.
- Review suspicious cases and collect relevant information and supporting documentation.
- Assist in preliminary investigation of fraud, misrepresentation, document manipulation, identity-related issues and other irregularities.
- Coordinate with internal departments for collection of transaction records, documents, communications and other relevant evidence.
- Prepare investigation notes and reports for management review.
- Escalate material or potentially criminal matters immediately through the prescribed internal process.
- Support implementation of preventive and detective controls to reduce fraud exposure.

3. Legal Compliance Responsibilities

- Monitor and assist in ensuring compliance with applicable laws, rules, regulations, regulatory directions and internal policies relevant to the Company's operations.
- Maintain a compliance tracker covering applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
- Assist in tracking regulatory filings, notices, submissions, licences, registrations and renewals wherever assigned.
- Coordinate with internal departments for collection of information required for legal and regulatory responses.
- Maintain proper records of notices, correspondence, regulatory communications and compliance actions.
- Identify potential compliance gaps and escalate them to the appropriate authority.
- Assist in preparing compliance reports and management updates.
- Support internal and external audits by providing relevant documentation and records.
- Ensure that compliance-related documentation is properly maintained and readily retrievable.

Important: The Executive will support legal and regulatory compliance activities but will not independently provide legal opinions unless specifically authorised and appropriately qualified to do so.

4. Coordination with Law Enforcement Agencies

The incumbent may be required to coordinate with law-enforcement agencies and government authorities in relation to legitimate Company matters.

Responsibilities include:

- Coordinate responses to requests, notices, summons, enquiries and other official communications received from authorised government or law-enforcement agencies.
- Maintain a central register of law-enforcement and government correspondence.
- Coordinate with internal departments to obtain relevant information and documents.
- Coordinate with external legal counsel wherever legal advice or representation is required.
- Ensure that responses are submitted only through authorised Company channels and within prescribed timelines.
- Maintain complete records of communications, submissions and supporting documents.
- Escalate sensitive or high-risk matters to senior management and/or the Company's legal counsel.

5. Coordination with Banks & Financial Institutions

- Coordinate with banking partners, financial institutions and other regulated entities on compliance and verification matters.
- Respond to documentation and information requirements received from banking partners through authorised channels.
- Assist in resolving KYC, account, transaction, merchant and compliance-related queries.
- Coordinate with internal teams for timely submission of required documents.
- Maintain records of communications and responses provided to banking and financial partners.
- Escalate unresolved or sensitive matters to management.





6. Regulatory Coordination

The position will support coordination with relevant financial-sector and government regulatory bodies, as applicable to the Company's business and regulatory structure.

Responsibilities include:

- Track regulatory communications and instructions relevant to the Company's operations.
- Assist in preparing information and documentation requested by regulatory authorities.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders for regulatory responses.
- Maintain regulatory correspondence and submission records.
- Track deadlines and ensure timely escalation of pending regulatory matters.
- Support regulatory inspections, audits and information requests.
- Assist senior management and compliance/legal teams in maintaining regulatory readiness.

7. Compliance Documentation & MIS

- Maintain comprehensive KYC/KYB, due-diligence, background verification and compliance records.
- Prepare periodic MIS relating to:
- KYC verification
- Merchant verification
- Employee background verification
- Pending compliance cases
- Risk alerts
- Fraud investigations
- Legal notices
- Regulatory correspondence
- Law-enforcement requests
- Maintain case-wise documentation and audit trails.
- Ensure that sensitive information is securely maintained and shared only with authorised personnel.
- Assist in preparing management dashboards and compliance reports.

8. Risk Monitoring & Internal Controls

- Identify operational, compliance, fraud and reputational risks arising from merchant and business operations.
- Review existing controls and identify potential gaps.
- Assist in implementing preventive and detective controls.
- Monitor exceptions and unresolved risk issues.
- Participate in periodic risk reviews.
- Recommend improvements to verification and control processes.
- Ensure that identified risks are appropriately documented, escalated and tracked until closure.

11. Educational Qualification

Minimum Qualification:

- Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Finance, Business Administration, Risk Management, Banking & Finance, or a related discipline.

Preferred:

- MBA – Finance / Risk Management.
- Certification in AML/KYC/Compliance/Risk Management.
- Certification or practical exposure in financial crime compliance or fraud investigation.

13. Experience

Recommended Experience: 2–5years in any of the following areas:

Pay: ₹240,000.00 - ₹360,000.00 per year
