Job Description Consultant Nuclear Medicine Physician
Position: Consultant – Nuclear Medicine
Department: Nuclear Medicine
Location: Diagnostics Centre
Reporting To: Group Medical Director / Medical Director
Job Purpose
We are looking for an experienced Consultant Nuclear Medicine Physician to provide comprehensive nuclear medicine diagnostic services, ensuring accurate interpretation of studies, high-quality patient care, radiation safety, and compliance with applicable regulatory and clinical standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform and interpret nuclear medicine diagnostic investigations as per clinical requirements and the facility's approved scope of services.
- Review patient history, clinical indications, previous investigations, and relevant laboratory/imaging findings before performing or interpreting studies.
- Interpret and report nuclear medicine scans accurately and within the defined turnaround time.
- Provide clinical correlation and appropriate diagnostic impressions in reports.
- Supervise and guide nuclear medicine technologists in the conduct of diagnostic procedures.
- Ensure appropriate patient preparation, administration protocols, imaging procedures, and post-procedure instructions.
- Review and report PET-CT/nuclear medicine studies in accordance with established protocols and clinical indications.
- Identify and communicate critical or significant findings promptly to the referring physician/clinical team.
- Ensure adherence to radiation safety protocols and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Work closely with RSO, Nuclear Medicine Technologists, and other clinical teams.
- Participate in quality assurance, clinical audits, protocol reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure proper documentation of procedures, reports, adverse events, and relevant clinical records.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with organizational policies and applicable laws and regulations.
- Provide guidance and training to Nuclear Medicine Technologists and other relevant staff, wherever required.
- Support the management in establishing, improving, and expanding nuclear medicine diagnostic services.
Patient Safety & Compliance
- Ensure appropriate justification and clinical indication for nuclear medicine investigations.
- Ensure radiation exposure is kept as low as reasonably achievable while maintaining diagnostic quality.
- Follow all applicable AERB, NMC, and other statutory/regulatory requirements, as applicable to the facility and scope of work.
- Ensure appropriate handling of patients requiring special precautions, including pregnancy-related considerations, wherever applicable.
- Participate in incident reporting, investigation, and corrective/preventive action processes.
Qualifications
- MBBS from a recognized medical institution.
- MD/DNB in Nuclear Medicine or equivalent recognized qualification.
- Valid registration with the applicable State Medical Council/National Medical Commission.
- Valid professional credentials and registrations required for practice in a diagnostic centre.
- Experience in nuclear medicine diagnostics, PET-CT, Gamma , and related investigations will be preferred.
