Manadate Skills: NetApp Storage, Installation and Configuration, Migration.

Storage Operations & Support

- Manage and support enterprise Netapp storage platforms (Primary: NetApp ONTAP, Secondary/Valuable to know Pure Storage FlashArray/FlashBlade, Dell EMC PowerStore/Unity/PowerMax, HPE Primera/Alletra/3PAR) including day-to-day operations, incident and problem management (L2 escalations from L1), and RCA within defined SLAs.

- Perform storage provisioning and lifecycle management, volume/LUN creation, expansion, mapping/masking, aggregate/pool management, and decommissioning.

- Monitor storage capacity, performance, and health, latency, IOPS, throughput, thin provisioning thresholds, and predictive capacity planning.

- Perform storage firmware/microcode/OS upgrades including compatibility checks, rollback strategy, and minimize downtime during upgrades.

- Manage storage replication and DR technologies ( Netapp SnapMirror, RecoverPoint, SRM, native array replication) including failover/failback testing.

- Administer SAN fabric components (Brocade/Cisco MDS switches, zoning, multipathing) and NAS protocols (NFS, SMB/CIFS).

Backup Platform Operations & Support

- Manage and support enterprise backup platforms (Rubrik, Cohesity, Veeam, Commvault, NetBackup) including backup job configuration, scheduling, monitoring, and failure of remediation.

- Design and maintain backup policies aligned to RPO/RTO requirements across virtual, physical, database, and application workloads.

- Perform backup infrastructure upgrades and patching media servers, proxies, storage nodes/appliances, and backup software components.

- Monitor and manage backup storage repositories, deduplication ratios, retention policies, and data lifecycle/archival tiers.

- Prform and validate restore operations file-level, VM-level, application-consistent, and granular/item-level recovery.

- Conduct periodic DR drills and backup/restore audits to ensure recoverability and compliance with data protection of SLAs.

Troubleshooting

- Diagnose and resolve storage performance issues latency spikes, queue depth, path failures, controller/node failovers, and resource contention.

- Troubleshoot SAN/NAS connectivity issues — zoning errors, multipathing failures, NFS/SMB mount issues, and fabric/switch-level faults.

- Debug backup job failures — snapshot errors, VSS/application-consistency failures, network throughput bottlenecks, and proxy/media server issues.

- Investigate replication and DR issues — replication lag, broken mirror relationships, and failover/failback inconsistencies.

- Troubleshoot capacity and quota-related issues — thin-provisioning over-commitment, snapshot reserve exhaustion, and deduplication/compression anomalies.

- Perform root cause analysis for recurring incidents and drive permanent fixes in coordination with L3/Architecture teams.

Security & Access

- Implement and manage role-based access control (RBAC) and multi-tenancy storage arrays and backup platforms for secure, least-privilege access.

- Support data-at-rest encryption, secure snapshot/immutability configurations, and ransomware-resilience features (e.g., immutable backups, air-gapped copies).

- Manage integration with enterprise secret/credential stores and certificate-based authentication for storage and backup management interfaces.

- Ensure compliance with data retention policies, patch/firmware SLAs, and audit/regulatory requirements.

Platform & Automation

- Contribute to platform design decisions — storage tiering strategy, capacity planning, backup architecture, and data protection roadmap.

- Automate routine storage and backup operations using scripting (PowerShell, Python, REST APIs) and vendor CLI/automation toolkits.

- Work with monitoring and observability tools (vendor-native monitoring, Grafana, SolarWinds, storage/backup reporting dashboards) for proactive capacity and health monitoring.

- Support integration of storage and backup platforms with virtualization (VMware/Nutanix) and cloud environments (Azure, AWS) including cloud tiering and cloud-based DR.

- Document runbooks, SOPs, architecture diagrams, and knowledge base articles for recurring issues.

- Participate in on-call rotation and support during planned maintenance/outages.

Required Skills & Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in computer science, IT, or related field (or equivalent experience).

- 5 to 9 years of hands-on experience in enterprise storage administration and backup platform engineering.

- Strong command over at least one enterprise storage vendor platform (NetApp, Pure Storage, Dell EMC, or HPE).

- Hands-on experience with at least one enterprise backup platform (Rubrik, Cohesity, Veeam, Commvault, or NetBackup).

- Deep troubleshooting experience across storage performance, SAN/NAS connectivity, and backup/restore operations.

- Solid understanding of RAID, storage protocols (FC, iSCSI, NFS, SMB), replication technologies, and RPO/RTO concepts.
