Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and manage the labour room for deliveries.
- Assess women presenting with labour pain and promptly inform the gynaecologist.
- Monitor labour progress, contractions, maternal vital signs and fetal heart rate.
- Assist the gynaecologist during normal vaginal deliveries and obstetric procedures.
- Provide antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal nursing care.
- Recognise warning signs and assist in obstetric emergencies, including postpartum haemorrhage, eclampsia and fetal distress.
- Prepare emergency medicines, instruments, delivery trays and newborn-resuscitation equipment.
- Provide immediate newborn care, including initial assessment, warmth, cord care and breastfeeding support.
- Assist with newborn resuscitation when required and appropriately trained.
- Administer prescribed medicines, injections and IV fluids.
- Maintain strict infection-control, sterilisation and patient-safety standards.
- Maintain accurate labour-room, delivery, medication and patient records.
- Educate mothers regarding breastfeeding, hygiene, nutrition, postnatal care and danger signs.
- Coordinate effectively with the gynaecologist, paediatrician and other hospital staff.
- Maintain patient privacy, dignity and confidentiality at all times.
Required Qualifications
- GNM, BSc Nursing or another recognised nursing/midwifery qualification.
- Valid registration as a Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife (RN/RM).
- Delhi Nursing Council registration, or eligibility and willingness to complete the applicable registration process.
- Minimum 1-2 years of hands-on labour-room or maternity experience.
- Practical experience assisting with normal vaginal deliveries is mandatory.
- Ability to handle rotational shifts, night duties and emergency delivery calls.
