Overview
We are seeking a skilled Sheet Metal Forming Tool Designer to design, develop, and optimize tooling solutions for sheet metal forming processes such as stamping, bending, deep drawing, and progressive die operations. The role involves close collaboration with manufacturing, product design, and quality teams to ensure productive and cost-effective production.
Responsibilities
Tool Design & Development
Design sheet metal forming tools including:
Progressive dies
Transfer dies
Compound dies
Deep drawing tools
Bending and forming dies
Create detailed 2D drawings and 3D models using CAD software (e.g., CATIA, NX, SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
Define die layouts, strip layouts, and tool configurations.
Process Planning
Develop strip layouts, calculate material utilization, and optimize production efficiency.
Define forming sequences and process parameters for various metal forming operations.
Ensure designs meet manufacturability and cost targets.
Simulation & Validation
Perform simulations (using tools like AutoForm, PAM-STAMP, or similar).
Analyze springback, thinning, wrinkling, and potential defects.
Optimize tool design based on simulation results.
Tool Manufacturing Support
Prepare BOM (Bill of Materials) and tool specifications.
Support tool fabrication, assembly, and trial runs.
Troubleshoot issues during tool tryout and production.
Quality & Continuous Improvement
Ensure tools meet dimensional and quality requirements.
Implement corrective actions for tooling issues.
Drive continuous improvement in tooling design and production processes.
Collaboration
Work closely with:
Product design engineers
Manufacturing teams
Suppliers and toolmakers
Participate in design reviews and feasibility studies.
