Design Engineer
to own end-to-end mechanical design of sub-assemblies across our autonomous surface and underwater vessel platforms.
What You'll Do
Own the full design lifecycle of sub-assemblies — from ideation and concept development through 3D modeling, FEA analysis, vendor coordination, QC sign-off, and assembly guidance
Create detailed 3D models and manufacturing-ready 2D drawings using Siemens NX CAD (preferred) or equivalent tools (SolidWorks, CATIA), applying DFM, DFA, and DFMEA principles
Perform feasibility studies and stress analyses using ANSYS or equivalent simulation tools to validate designs before production
Select appropriate materials accounting for harsh underwater conditions — depth ratings, pressure tolerances, surface treatments, corrosion resistance
Coordinate with procurement and external CNC vendors — brief tolerance requirements, review fabricated components, and sign off on incoming QC reports
Work alongside naval architects, electrical engineers, and software engineers in a tightly integrated 13-person mechatronics team
Guide technical assistants during assembly using 2D drawings and hands-on direction
Must-Have Requirements
3+ years of hands-on mechanical design experience in an R&D; or product development workplace
Proficiency in a 3D CAD tool — Siemens NX strongly
