Summary
- The Consultant ENT Surgeon will be responsible for diagnosing, treating, and managing disorders of the ear, nose, throat, head, and neck in both adult and paediatric patients.
- The role encompasses outpatient consultations, inpatient management.
Clinical Responsibilities
- Outpatient Services (OPD): Diagnose and manage ENT disorders affecting the ear, nose, paranasal sinuses, throat, larynx, head, and neck.
- Evaluate and treat: hearing loss, vertigo and balance disorders, tinnitus, sinusitis, allergic rhinitis, nasal obstruction, tonsillitis, voice disorders, swallowing disorders, and sleep-related breathing disorders.
- Develop individualised preventive and long-term management plans for patients.
- Inpatient Services (IPD): Admit and manage patients requiring medical or surgical ENT intervention.
- Monitor post-operative recovery and manage complications.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary care with intensivists, pulmonologists, neurologists, oncologists, speech therapists, and audiologists.
Surgical Responsibilities:
- Ear Surgery: myringotomy, tympanoplasty, mastoidectomy, ossiculoplasty, management of CSOM, hearing restoration procedures.
- Nose & Sinus Surgery: septoplasty, Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS), turbinate reduction, nasal polypectomy, management of epistaxis.
- Throat & Airway Surgery: tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy, microlaryngeal surgery, vocal cord procedures, tracheostomy, airway management.
- Head & Neck Procedures: excision of neck masses, salivary gland surgeries, thyroid-related ENT procedures (if credentialed), head and neck tumour surgeries, biopsies.
- Advanced Procedures (if credentialed): endoscopic skull base surgery, cochlear implant surgery, sleep apnoea surgeries, head and neck oncological surgeries.
- Emergency Responsibilities: Manage ENT emergencies: airway obstruction, severe epistaxis, foreign bodies in ear/nose/throat, deep neck infections, facial trauma, and post-operative complications.
- Participate in code blue and emergency response teams.
- Audiology, Hearing & Sleep Services:
Evaluate hearing disorders and interpret audiometry and vestibular testing.
- Counsel patients on hearing aids and cochlear implants; collaborate with audiologists.
- Evaluate and manage patients with snoring and obstructive sleep apnoea in coordination with pulmonologists and sleep medicine specialists.
- Quality & Compliance Ensure compliance with NABH, NMC, and hospital policies.
- Maintain accurate and complete medical records for all patient encounters.
- Participate in clinical audits and quality improvement programmes.
- Follow infection prevention and antibiotic stewardship protocols.
- Ensure informed consent and medico-legal compliance for all procedures.
- Academic & Career development Participate in CMEs, ENT conferences, and professional development programmes.
- Provide clinical supervision and mentoring to junior doctors and nursing staff.
- Develop departmental clinical protocols and surgical guidelines.
- Stay updated with advances in endoscopic ENT surgery, cochlear implantation, and head and neck oncology.
- Participate in clinical research and academic publications where applicable.
- Business Development & Hospital Growth
- Develop and expand ENT services including specialty clinics: Hearing & Audiology Clinic, Vertigo Clinic, Sinus & Allergy Clinic, Voice and Swallowing Clinic, Sleep Apnoea Clinic, Paediatric ENT Clinic, and Head & Neck Oncology Clinic.
- Conduct hearing screening camps, school health programmes, and community awareness initiatives.
- Build referral relationships with general practitioners, paediatricians, pulmonologists, neurologists, audiologists, and corporate health providers.
- Contribute to growth in ENT surgical volumes, hearing services, and specialty clinic revenue.
Qualifications Essential
- MS / DNB ENT (Otorhinolaryngology)
- Valid State Medical Council Registration Preferred
- Fellowship in Otology, Neurotology, Rhinology, Endoscopic Sinus Surgery, Head & Neck Surgery, Sleep Medicine, or Cochlear Implant Surgery Training in advanced endoscopic ENT procedures and head & neck oncology
- Experience Requirements Consultant:
- Minimum 5 years post-MS/DNB experience in a recognised hospital.
- Senior Consultant: Minimum 8-10 years post-specialisation experience.
