Instructional Designer
Turn expert knowledge into clear, visual lessons that help people without a college degree build real careers in the skilled trades.
The role
You'll take technical source material from subject matter experts and turn it into structured, visual, beginner-friendly e-learning lessons. You own each lesson from first brief to publish-ready including directing the visuals, not just writing the words. It's a hands-on, collaborative role: you'll work daily with content leads, visual designers, and animators to bring lessons to life.
What you'll own
- Turn topic outlines and learning objectives into step-by-step lessons a complete beginner can follow.
- Write the visual brief for each lesson describe exactly what a diagram, animation, or labelled photo should show, what to highlight, and why it helps the learner at that moment.
- Partner with visual designers and animators so the final visuals match your intent, iterating until they're right.
- Keep each lesson accurate and on-scope verify technical content with SMEs and catch errors in terminology, sequencing, and visual direction before anything goes live.
- Use learners feedback to make your lessons better over time.
What valuable looks like
Within a few months, you're shipping lessons beginners can follow without getting lost, your visual briefs are clear enough that designers rarely need to ask follow-ups, and your content moves through review without accuracy or consistency issues.
Who you are
- 0-5 years of experience; we welcome strong early-career talent.
- Excellent English writing with sharp attention to detail grammar, structure, and consistency.
- You can break a technical concept down into plain language for someone seeing it for the first time.
- A visual thinker: you can describe what a diagram or animation should look like clearly enough that a designer can build it without guessing.
- You pick up new technical topics quickly from source material.
- A proactive communicator who works well across teams this is not a solo role.
- Coachable and genuinely open to feedback and revision.
Nice to have
- A background in basic science, instructional design, or e-learning (our courses cover HVAC, electrical, and plumbing, which involve physics).
- Experience with Articulate / Storyline 360 is a real plus we build our modules in it but we'll train you if you haven't used it.
- Experience at a startup, ideally US-based.
- Familiarity with LLM tools and how to use them responsibly in a content workflow.
What this is not
- Not a writing-only role you direct visuals, you don't just write text.
- Not a solo role you'll coordinate with multiple teams every day.
- Not a video editing or motion graphics role — you decide what the visuals should be; others execute them.
The setup
- Full-time, remote within India.
- Working hours are 3:00 PM – 12:00 AM IST — an evening shift, so we overlap with our US team. Please apply only if these hours work for you long-term.
- You'll need a personal computer, reliable internet, and a webcam for team meetings.
- Perks: Employee Provident Fund, Health insurance and a paid yearly company meetup each December.
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
