The Attending Consultant in Surgical Oncology will be responsible for assisting in the management of patients requiring oncologic surgical care, with a special focus on head & neck and oral cancers. The role includes preoperative assessment, surgical assistance, postoperative care, and participation in multidisciplinary tumor boards and academic activities. The consultant will support the department in delivering evidence-based and patient-centered care in accordance with hospital standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in surgical management of oncology patients, particularly head & neck and oral malignancies.
- Conduct detailed clinical evaluation, staging workup, and treatment planning in coordination with the multidisciplinary team.
- Perform minor oncologic procedures independently and assist in major surgeries under supervision.
- Participate in tumor board discussions and treatment planning meetings.
- Manage post-operative care and coordinate with other specialties for comprehensive patient management.
- Ensure compliance with institutional policies, infection control, and NABH standards.
- Maintain accurate patient documentation and contribute to departmental audits and case records.
- Guide residents, dental officers, and interns as part of departmental teaching activities.
- Engage in academic sessions, clinical research, and awareness programs related to oral and head & neck cancers.
- Participate in outreach and screening camps organized by the department/hospital.
Qualification & Experience:
- Qualification: MDS (Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery) with Fellowship in Head & Neck Oncology / Oral Oncology from a recognized institute.
- Experience: 0–3 years post fellowship experience in a tertiary care or oncology setup preferred.
- Registration: Valid registration with State Dental Council.
