Role & responsibilities
Consultant Pathologist (VHV-111)
- Perform and interpret histopathology, cytology, hematology, clinical pathology, and other laboratory investigations as per competency.
- Review and authorize pathology reports with accuracy and within defined turnaround time (TAT).
- Correlate laboratory findings with clinical history and provide appropriate diagnostic inputs to treating consultants.
- Handle complex and critical cases and provide timely consultation to clinicians.
- Ensure proper quality control and quality assurance practices within the pathology laboratory.
- Supervise laboratory processes and ensure adherence to approved SOPs, protocols, and safety standards.
- Monitor and maintain accuracy, reliability, and confidentiality of patient investigations and reports.
- Guide and supervise laboratory technicians and other pathology team members.
- Participate in internal and external quality assurance programs, audits, and accreditation-related activities.
- Ensure proper documentation, maintenance of records, and compliance with applicable statutory and hospital requirements.
- Coordinate with other departments for smooth functioning of laboratory and diagnostic services.
- Support implementation of recent investigations, equipment, techniques, and process improvements as required.
- Participate in clinical meetings, case discussions, training programs, and academic activities.
- Ensure appropriate handling of critical/value-alert laboratory results and timely communication to the concerned clinician.
- Follow infection prevention, biomedical waste management, and laboratory safety protocols.
- Contribute to continuous improvement in patient safety, diagnostic accuracy, and overall laboratory quality.
Preferred candidate profile
- MBBS with MD/DNB in Pathology from a recognized institution.
- Valid registration with the respective State Medical Council/National Medical Commission, as applicable.
- Minimum 3+ years of relevant post-qualification experience in Pathology.
- Experience in a hospital/diagnostic laboratory setup will be preferred.
- Strong knowledge of pathology procedures, laboratory quality standards, and reporting practices.
- Good communication, interpersonal, and clinical coordination skills.
