About the Group
Spaces And Between is a Mumbai-headquartered group operating across furniture manufacturing and content production. Spaces And Between Private Limited and Spaces And Between Manufacturing Private Limited - with a mix of domestic D2C and dealer sales, project-based cinema installations, direct exports and imports, and services revenue. This is a hands-on accounting role at the centre of all of it.
Role Summary
We are looking for a diligent, detail-obsessed Accountant to own the day-to-day books and statutory compliance calendar for both Indian entities. You will be the person who makes sure every expense is booked, every invoice is raised and matched, every return is filed on time, every e-way bill is generated correctly, and every rupee moving in or out of our bank accounts is accounted for and reconciled.
You will work closely with the Co-Founders, the Operations and Purchase teams, and our external Chartered Accountant, who handles the statutory filings and advisory. Your job is to keep the underlying records so clean and current that the CA can file without chasing anyone and to make sure nothing falls through the cracks between two companies, multiple bank accounts, and both domestic and cross-border transactions.
Key Responsibilities
1. Books of Accounts & Expense Booking
Maintain complete and up-to-date books of accounts in Tally for both SABPL and SABMPL, with correct entity, cost-centre and ledger allocation.
Book all purchase, expense and journal entries on a daily basis, raw material, hardware and mechanisms, freight and CHA charges, factory overheads, utilities, subscriptions, travel, marketing and professional fees.
Reconcile the purchase register generated from our internal ERP/inventory system against Tally each month and resolve every difference; no entry should exist in one system and not the other.
Maintain the vendor invoice repository (NAS/shared drive) so that every booked entry has a corresponding supporting document filed and retrievable.
Chase missing vendor invoices, follow up on creditors showing debit balances, and clean up open advances.
Distinguish capital expenditure from revenue expenditure correctly, maintain the fixed asset register, and compute depreciation.
Pass month-end entries and provisions, prepaid expenses, accruals, and forex gain/loss on restatement.
2. Invoicing, Receivables & Payables
Raise all sales invoices - domestic GST invoices, export invoices, service invoices and proforma invoices with correct HSN/SAC codes, GST rates, place of supply and terms.
Prepare export invoices and supporting documentation packs for each shipment, and ensure export sales are recorded against the correct shipping bill and LUT.
Issue credit notes and debit notes and ensure they flow correctly into the GST returns.
Maintain the customer ageing/receivables statement, track advances and milestone payments, and follow up on overdue collections with the sales team.
Maintain the vendor ageing/payables statement and prepare the payment run for approval, with due dates, TDS deduction and hold amounts clearly shown.
Reconcile vendor and customer ledgers periodically and obtain balance confirmations at year-end.
3. GST & Indirect Tax Compliance
Prepare the monthly GST working for both entities - outward supply summary, input tax credit, RCM liability and net payable and coordinate challan generation and payment.
File GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B within due dates for both entities, and support the annual GSTR-9 / GSTR-9C filings.
Reconcile GSTR-2B against the purchase register every month; flag mismatches, follow up with vendors who have not uploaded invoices,
and ensure ineligible credit (including capital-expenditure ITC) is not claimed.
Identify and discharge Reverse Charge Mechanism liability on applicable expenses, including import of services.
Maintain the LUT for zero-rated exports and renew it each financial year.
Prepare and track refund applications for accumulated ITC on exports, and follow them through to receipt.
Compile documentation and draft replies for GST notices, departmental queries and assessments, in coordination with the CA, and physically follow up at the GST office where required.
4. TDS, Income Tax & Other Statutory Compliance
Deduct TDS/TCS correctly at the time of booking and payment, maintain the TDS working, and deposit monthly challans within due dates.
Prepare and support quarterly TDS returns - Form 24Q and 26Q for both entities, and resolve TRACES defaults and short-deduction notices.
Generate and issue Form 16 and Form 16A, and provide employees with salary and TDS statements for their income tax filings.
Manage Professional Tax registration, monthly/annual payment and return filing for both entities, and respond to PT notices.
Support PF and ESIC compliance where applicable, including monthly challans and returns.
Prepare advance tax workings and support the corporate income tax return filings.
5. Annual Returns, Audit & Statutory Records
Prepare the trial balance, schedules and complete audit file for the statutory audit of both companies, and act as the primary point of contact for the auditors.
Support finalisation of accounts and preparation of financial statements as per Schedule III.
Coordinate ROC/MCA annual filings - AOC-4, MGT-7, ADT-1 and related forms with the Company Secretary and provide all supporting data. Support cost audit and any other statutory audit requirements, providing registers, records and reconciliations on request.
Maintain statutory registers, records and documentation in an audit-ready state throughout the year, not just at year-end.
6. E-Way Bills & Dispatch Documentation
Generate e-way bills accurately and on time for all outward dispatches from the Bhiwandi facility and for inward movements where required.
Coordinate with the factory, dispatch and logistics teams so that e-way bills match the tax invoice, vehicle number, quantity and delivery address, and extend or cancel them where transit conditions change.
Maintain the e-way bill register and reconcile it against sales invoices and stock movement each month.
Handle delivery challans and e-way bills for job work, exhibition/demo movement (for example, trade show stock) and inter-branch or inter-entity transfers.
7. Banking, Payments & International Transactions
Perform daily and monthly bank reconciliations for all accounts across the Group's Indian banks, and support reconciliation of the Group's overseas account activity where required.
Prepare and execute payment instructions on corporate net banking for approval, maintaining a explicit payment record with supporting documents.
Handle outward remittances for imports - prepare A1/A2 documentation, coordinate with the bank;s forex desk, and ensure Bills of Entry are submitted and knocked off against remittances on IDPMS.
Track inward remittances against export invoices, follow up on FIRC/e-BRC issuance, and ensure shipping bills are closed on EDPMS within the permitted realisation period.
Maintain the register of open BOEs and shipping bills, escalate overdue items with the bank, and keep proof of every document submission.
Handle bank documentation requirements - KYC updates, mandate changes, facility renewals, foreign inward remittance certificates, and other correspondence with the bank.
Account for and reconcile foreign currency transactions, including exchange rate differences, bank charges and correspondent bank deductions.
Coordinate with CHA and freight forwarders on debit notes, customs duty payments and shipment-wise cost allocation, and verify their invoices before booking.
8. Payroll, Reimbursements & Employee Accounting
Process monthly payroll inputs - attendance, leave, salary revisions, full-and-final settlements and deferred retention/performance bonus tracking.
Compute salary TDS based on employee investment declarations and issue IT computation statements.
Process employee reimbursement claims against policy, with proper verification of supporting bills.
Maintain the employee-wise payroll and statutory deduction records required for audit and returns.
9. MIS, Controls & Reporting
Prepare monthly MIS for the Co-Founders P&L;, expense analysis, receivables and payables ageing, cash position and compliance status.
Maintain a compliance calendar covering every due date across both entities, and circulate advance reminders so nothing is filed late.
Flag anomalies, duplicate payments, unsupported expenses and process gaps proactively rather than waiting to be asked.
Support budgeting, product costing inputs and any ad hoc financial analysis requested by management.
Required Qualifications & Experience
B.Com / M.Com, or CA Inter / CMA Inter (qualification not mandatory if practical experience is strong).
3-6 years of hands-on accounting experience, with at least 2 years handling GST and TDS compliance independently.
Strong working knowledge of Tally Prime (or ERP 9) - you should be comfortable creating masters, passing complex entries and pulling reports without help.
Practical, portal-level experience with the GST portal, e-way bill portal, TRACES and the income tax portal. This role involves doing the filings, not just preparing workings.
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel lookups, pivot tables and reconciliations at minimum.
Ability to work across two companies simultaneously without mixing up entities, ledgers or compliance obligations.
Working proficiency in English for email correspondence with banks, auditors, vendors and overseas parties; Hindi and Marathi are useful for local dealings.
Preferred / Good to Have
Experience in a manufacturing company familiarity with raw material consumption, job work, stock movement and factory-level documentation.
Exposure to import and export accounting Bills of Entry, shipping bills, customs duty, EDPMS/IDPMS, FIRC and e-BRC.
Experience handling GST refunds on export of goods and departmental correspondence.
Familiarity with multi-currency accounting and forex restatement.
Exposure to inventory or ERP systems alongside Tally, and comfort reconciling between the two.
Experience supporting a statutory audit end-to-end as the company-side owner of the audit file.
What We Are Looking For
Ownership. You treat the compliance calendar as yours. Deadlines are met without reminders, and you raise a flag early when something is at risk.
Accuracy over speed. You reconcile before you report, and you would rather find the difference yourself than have the auditor find it.
Documentation discipline. Every entry has a backup, every submission has proof, and everything is filed where the next person can find it.
Willingness to follow through. Some of this work means visiting the GST office, the bank branch or the factory. You are comfortable doing that.
Clear communication. You can write a straightforward email to a bank or a vendor and explain a number to a founder without jargon.
Discretion. This role sees salary data, bank access and commercial terms. Confidentiality is non-negotiable.
Location & Working Arrangement
Place of work: either the Bhiwandi manufacturing unit or the Mira Road (East), Thane corporate office. The preferred base will be discussed at the interview stage, taking your residence and the role's needs into account.
Occasional travel between the two locations will be required. Travel to the bank, GST office or auditor's office as needed will be reimbursed as per policy.
Six-day working week. Additional hours may be required around statutory due dates, month-end close and the annual audit.
Compensation
30,000 to 50,000 per month, depending on experience, qualification and demonstrated compliance capability.
Annual review based on performance.
Statutory benefits as applicable. Appointment is subject to background verification and satisfactory reference checks.
