Qualification - Masters degree in Wildlife Biology, Ecology, Forestry, Conservation Biology, Environmental Science or a related discipline.
Experience - 2-4 years
Role Context: Lead the field level interventions for mitigating snake conflict and promote science-based snake conservation in targeted areas of the state. The candidate shall work closely with the Forest Department, local communities, snake rescuers, and healthcare providers. The role will focus on reducing conflict, improving safe snake rescue and rehabilitation practices, managing the snake rescue network, and contributing to the prevention of snakebite-related human fatalities.
Key Responsibilities :
Coordinate with the Forest Department and other relevant government stakeholders for smooth project implementation
Facilitate identification, selection, training and certification of local snake rescuers across the three target districts.
Coordinate with trained rescuers and ensure timely response to reported snake rescue and human-snake conflict cases.
Facilitate capacity building on protected, ethical and standardised rescue practices of snakes in coordination with Project Team in HQ and other subject experts suggested by the team.
Monitor and maintain records of snake rescue cases, rescuer activities, releases and other field-level project data.
Support onboarding, active use and regular functioning of the snake rescue app among trained snake rescuers.
Support the development of educational materials on snakebite prevention, first aid and the importance of seeking immediate medical care.
Facilitate community and School sensitisation programmes on snake ecology, snakebite prevention, safe rescue practices and timely medical treatment.
Collaborate with healthcare professionals and health facilities to strengthen awareness and preparedness for snakebite management, including timely referral and access to appropriate treatment
Support deployment, monitoring and regular updating of SAVeD/anti-snake venom box in coordination with Forest Department and in consultation with DH/PI
Assist in drafting, consultation, validation and of the state-specific snake rescue and conflict mitigation SOP in consultation with DH/PI
Conduct regular field monitoring and provide technical and operational support to rescuers and community stakeholders
MIS Reports :
1. Draft and submit, monthly quarterly annual project reports in consultation with DH/PI
2. Maintain project documentation, databases, field records, photographs and other supporting evidence required for reporting.
3. Work with local media outlets in dissemination of successful project outcomes
Any other responsibilities :
1. Provide field updates to DH/PI WTI s communications team on regular basis
2. Keep state forest department(s) updated on progress of project implementation through quarterly meetings
