Job Title: Cognos BI Developer

Location: Bangalore/Chennai

Experience: 5-10 years

Role Summary: We are looking for a Senior Cognos BI Developer to design, develop, and maintain enterprise reporting and analytics solutions on the IBM Cognos Analytics platform. The role involves end-to-end ownership from data modeling and report development to performance tuning, deployment, and stakeholder engagement.

Key Responsibilities

- Design and develop complex paginated reports, dashboards, active reports, and visualizations in IBM Cognos Analytics (10.x/11.x)
- Build and maintain Framework Manager packages and contemporary Data Modules — define namespaces, query subjects, relationships, determinants, calculated items, and governors.
- Translate business requirements into technical specs; work directly with business analysts, product owners, and end users.
- Develop and optimize underlying SQL queries, stored procedures, and views on relational databases such as Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQL Server etc.
- Implement prompts, drill-throughs, master-detail relationships, conditional formatting, and bursting.
- Configure schedules, subscriptions, and distribution (email, file share, portal).
- Implement row-level / object-level security using Cognos namespaces, capabilities, and authentication providers (LDAP, AD, SSO/SAML).
- Perform performance tuning of reports, queries, and Cognos services — analyze query logs, indexing strategies, and caching.
- Migrate legacy content (SSRS, Crystal, older Cognos versions, BusinessObjects) into the current Cognos environment.
- Support deployments across environments (Dev UAT Prod)



using deployment specifications, Lifecycle Manager, and Git-based version control.
- Mentor junior developers; conduct code reviews and enforce BI standards.
- Troubleshoot production issues and provide L3 support.

Required Skills

- 5–10 years of hands-on experience in IBM Cognos BI / Analytics (10.x and 11.x).
- Robust expertise in Framework Manager modeling and Data Modules.
- Expert in Report Studio / Cognos Reporting — list, crosstab, chart, dashboard, active report, drill-through, bursting.
- Strong SQL skills — complex joins, window functions, query optimization, execution plan reading.
- Solid grasp of dimensional modeling, star/snowflake schemas, slowly changing dimensions.
- Experience with at least one enterprise RDBMS (SQL Server, Oracle, Teradata, DB2) and ideally a cloud warehouse (Snowflake, Synapse, BigQuery, Redshift).
- Understanding of ETL concepts and exposure to tools like SSIS, Informatica, ADF, or DataStage.
- Working knowledge of Cognos administration — content store, dispatcher, security, audit.
- Experience deploying Cognos in dev/test/prod lifecycles, version control, and CI/CD principles.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

- Experience with Cognos SDK / REST API for automation.
- Migration experience: Cognos Power BI/Tableau.
- Exposure to Power BI, Tableau, or Qlik for hybrid environments.
