For a Head of School (HOS) role in a school offering IGCSE, I would make IGCSE experience a core requirement, not merely an added advantage—especially if the person is expected to lead the school through Cambridge accreditation/authorisation and implementation.
Recommended HOS Job Profile
Position: Head of School (HOS) – IGCSE
Key qualification & experience
- Minimum 10–15 years of experience in education, preferably in international schools.
- At least 5–7 years of substantial experience with Cambridge IGCSE.
- Should have experience as a Principal / Vice Principal / Head of Secondary / Head of IGCSE / Academic Head in an IGCSE or Cambridge school.
- Strong understanding of the Cambridge IGCSE curriculum, assessment framework, subject selection, progression and examination systems.
- Experience in Cambridge school registration/authorisation/approval processes and working with Cambridge International.
- Experience in developing and implementing curriculum frameworks, policies, academic systems, assessment practices and quality assurance mechanisms.
- Should understand the transition and progression from Primary/MYP into IGCSE, where applicable.
Specific responsibility for IGCSE
The HOS should be responsible for:
- Leading the IGCSE academic programme and ensuring that curriculum delivery meets Cambridge standards.
- Guiding the academic team through Cambridge authorisation/registration requirements and ensuring all documentation, policies and evidence are prepared.
- Coordinating with Cambridge International during the approval/registration process.
- Establishing the required curriculum, assessment,
examination and academic policies.
- Guiding Heads of Departments and subject teachers on IGCSE curriculum planning and standards.
- Ensuring appropriate subject choices, schemes of work, curriculum mapping and progression pathways.
- Monitoring teaching quality, internal assessments and student performance against IGCSE expectations.
- Ensuring the school is prepared for Cambridge inspections/visits and compliance requirements.
- Building the capacity of teachers through IGCSE-specific career development.
- Establishing systems for exam administration, coursework/NEA where applicable, moderation and academic integrity.
- Ensuring that the school has the required laboratories, library/resources, technology and other academic infrastructure.
- Working with the leadership team on IGCSE examination results, university pathways and academic improvement plans.
One important point
I would not hire someone simply because they have been a Principal in an international school. For your requirement, the candidate should be able to demonstrate:
“I have personally led or substantially participated in the establishment/authorisation and academic implementation of a Cambridge IGCSE school.”
That is much stronger than simply saying “experienced in IGCSE.”
For your school, I would ideally look for someone who has taken an IGCSE school from the preparation/authorisation stage through to successful implementation and examination, because they can guide the entire team rather than only manage the school operationally.
Pay: ₹100,000.00 - ₹110,000.00 per month
