Spray Dryer Operator – Roles & Responsibilities
- Start-up & Shutdown
- Perform pre-start inspection of spray dryer, feed pump, atomizer/nozzle, ID fan, hot-air generator and exhaust system.
- Start equipment in the correct sequence.
- Follow proper shutdown procedure and prevent material buildup inside the chamber.
- Process Operation
- Maintain required inlet and outlet air temperatures.
- Control feed flow according to production requirements.
- Monitor atomization pressure/speed and spray pattern.
- Maintain required air flow and negative pressure in the system.
- Adjust operating parameters to maintain consistent powder quality.
- Feed Handling
- Check feed slurry/extract concentration before feeding.
- Ensure feed tank is properly agitated.
- Monitor feed pump, filters and pipelines for blockage or leakage.
- Prevent the spray dryer from running without adequate feed when the process requires continuous feeding.
- Temperature & Moisture Control
- Regularly record inlet and outlet temperatures.
- Monitor powder moisture and adjust feed rate/air temperature accordingly.
- Prevent overheating, burning, sticking or excessive moisture in the powder.
- Equipment Monitoring
- Monitor:
- ID fan
- Hot-air generator/furnace
- Feed pump
- Atomizer/nozzles
- Cyclone
- Scrubber/WESP, if installed
- Exhaust temperature
- Pressure/vacuum
- Identify abnormal vibration, noise, temperature, pressure or electrical conditions.
- Powder Collection
- Ensure proper collection from cyclone/bag filter/scrubber system.
- Prevent powder accumulation and choking of discharge lines.
- Check powder colour, texture, moisture and contamination.
- Safety
- Follow PPE and plant safety procedures.
- Check for fuel leakage, hot surfaces, fire hazards and abnormal furnace conditions.
- Immediately report sparks, backfire, high temperature, loss of draft or other unsafe conditions.
- Never bypass safety interlocks without authorization.
- Cleaning & Housekeeping
- Clean spray chamber, nozzles/atomizer, cyclone and powder discharge areas as per schedule.
- Remove deposited material to prevent contamination and fire risk.
- Keep the operating area clean and dry.
- Troubleshooting
- Take immediate action for:
- High outlet temperature
- Low/high inlet temperature
- Wet powder
- Powder sticking to chamber
- automizer blockage
- Feed pump failure
- Low ID draft
- Cyclone choking
- Furnace instability
- Inform the supervisor/maintenance team when the problem cannot be safely corrected.
- Production & Records
- Maintain hourly production and parameter records.
- Record inlet/outlet temperature, feed rate, pressure, ID fan condition, fuel consumption and powder moisture.
- Report production quantity, downtime and abnormalities at shift handover.
Pay: ₹20,000.00 - ₹30,000.00 per month
