About the Role

A reputed University in Bengaluru is seeking a passionate and experienced Assistant Professor – Industrial Product Design / Furniture Design to join its Design faculty.

The ideal candidate will have strong academic and/or qualified experience in industrial product design, furniture design, materials, manufacturing processes and design thinking. The role involves teaching, mentoring students, contributing to curriculum development, and supporting the overall academic and creative development of the Design programme.

Key Responsibilities

- Deliver engaging lectures, studio sessions, workshops and practical classes in Industrial Product Design and/or Furniture Design.
- Mentor and guide students on design projects, portfolios, prototypes and final-year projects.
- Develop course content, lesson plans, assignments and assessment frameworks.
- Integrate contemporary design practices, materials, technologies and industry trends into teaching.
- Guide students in product development from ideation and concept development through prototyping and final execution.
- Encourage design thinking, research, experimentation and creative problem-solving.
- Participate in curriculum development and periodic review of academic programmes.
- Conduct design workshops, seminars, critiques and jury sessions.
- Contribute to academic research, publications, conferences and other scholarly activities.
- Build industry collaborations and facilitate live projects,



internships and industry exposure for students.
- Participate in departmental meetings, academic activities and institutional initiatives.
- Maintain high standards of academic delivery, student engagement and professional conduct.

Required Qualifications

- Postgraduate degree in Design is mandatory.
- Specialisation in Industrial Product Design, Product Design, Furniture Design, Industrial Design or a closely related discipline.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant professional and/or academic experience.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating relevant design expertise and project work.
- Good understanding of design processes, materials, prototyping and manufacturing techniques.
- Strong communication, presentation and mentoring skills.

Preferred Skills & Experience

- Experience in teaching Industrial/Product/Furniture Design at a university, design institute or similar institution.
- Industry experience in product development, furniture, industrial design or related areas.
- Proficiency in relevant design and digital tools such as Rhino, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Fusion 360, KeyShot, Adobe Creative Suite or equivalent tools.
- Experience with physical prototyping, model-making, fabrication and material exploration.
- Exposure to contemporary design trends, sustainable design and emerging technologies.
- Research, publications, exhibitions or professional design recognition will be an added advantage.
