Val-Ed Initiatives is an education-focused organization working with schools to create meaningful learning experiences through Values Education and Social-Emotional Learning (SEL).

We conceptualize and build Values Education Labs and creative learning elements that transform school environments into engaging, interactive and experiential spaces for children.

We are looking for a creative and detail-oriented Product Designer who can translate educational concepts and ideas into innovative physical products, installations, learning elements and interactive experiences.

Role Purpose

The Product Designer will be responsible for taking concepts from idea to design to prototype to final execution.

The role requires someone who can understand the educational objective behind a product or learning element and convert it into a functional, engaging, aesthetically appealing and practical physical solution.

You will work closely with our Academic, Design, Infra and Project teams to develop products and elements for Values Education Labs and school environments.

Key Responsibilities Product Concept & Design

- Develop creative concepts for learning elements, installations, displays, furniture and interactive products.
- Translate educational and experiential concepts into tangible physical products.
- Create initial sketches, concepts, layouts and design proposals.
- Develop products keeping children's usability, safety, engagement and learning outcomes in mind.




- Explore innovative materials, forms, mechanisms and finishes.
- Develop designs that are both visually appealing and practical to manufacture.

Design Development

- Prepare detailed 2D drawings, 3D models, elevations and technical drawings.
- Develop product dimensions, specifications and material details.
- Create 3D visualizations/renders to communicate design concepts.
- Modify designs based on feedback from academic, school and project teams.
- Ensure designs are suitable for actual site conditions and available space.

Prototyping & Fabrication

- Develop prototypes and mock-ups before final production.
- Work closely with fabricators, carpenters, vendors and manufacturers.
- Understand different materials such as wood, MDF, acrylic, metal, foam, fabric, laminates, paints and other relevant materials.
- Provide fabrication-ready drawings and specifications.
- Review samples and prototypes and suggest improvements.
- Ensure the final product matches the approved design.

School & Site Projects

- Understand the requirements of different school environments.
- Participate in site visits and assess available spaces.
- Adapt product designs based on space, dimensions, budget and site constraints.
- Coordinate with the Infra and Project teams during installation.




- Conduct site visits when required to monitor execution and installation.

Quality & Improvement

- Ensure products meet expected standards of quality, safety, durability and functionality.
- Identify design or execution issues and provide practical solutions.
- Continuously research new materials, design trends and innovative learning products.
- Improve existing learning elements based on user feedback and observations.

Required Skills

- Strong product design and conceptualization skills.
- Good understanding of materials, manufacturing and fabrication processes.
- Ability to create sketches and design concepts independently.
- Strong spatial and visual thinking.
- Understanding of ergonomics and child-friendly design.
- Ability to convert concepts into practical, manufacturable products.
- Good communication and coordination skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Software Skills

Proficiency in some/all of the following:

- AutoCAD
- SketchUp
- SolidWorks / Fusion 360 / Rhino – added advantage
- Adobe Illustrator / Photoshop
- 3D modelling and rendering tools
- CorelDRAW or similar tools – added advantage

Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree/diploma in Product Design, Industrial Design, Furniture Design, Interior Design, Architecture, or a related field.
- A strong portfolio of physical products/design projects is mandatory.

Pay: ₹40,000.00 - ₹50,000.00 per month
