Vedam Design & Technical Consultancy Pvt. Ltd. is India's largest ship design house, with ~250 professionals delivering engineering design and technical consultancy to global maritime clients. Alongside our core ship design business, Vedam operates a specialised Shipyard & Maritime Infrastructure Consulting vertical led by a Technical Director with 30+ years of marine engineering experience.
This vertical undertakes feasibility studies and Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for greenfield and brownfield shipyards, ship-repair yards, marinas, and ship-recycling facilities, and supports evaluation studies for shipyard/repair-yard acquisitions. Vedam leads the technical scope directly — site layout, material flow, area optimisation, and facilities planning — while partnering with specialist external consultants for scopes outside Vedam's own expertise (financial modelling, coastal engineering, market studies, jetty structural design, etc.).
Key Responsibilities:
Research & Technical Support
- Conduct structured online/desk research on shipyard and maritime infrastructure topics — global benchmarks, regulatory/statutory frameworks, port and yard capacity data, industry practices, and precedent projects.
- Compile and organise technical and market reference material to support feasibility studies and DPR development.
- Support the Technical Director and design project managers with background data for site layout, material flow, and facility/area-optimisation studies (drafting/CAD work is handled by dedicated design teams; this role does not require CAD proficiency).
Coordination
- Liaise with partner consulting firms engaged for financial, coastal engineering, market study, jetty structural design, and other specialist scopes — tracking deliverables, timelines,
and information exchange.
- Coordinate with Vedam's internal design project managers supporting the vertical to consolidate inputs across workstreams.
- Track action items, follow-ups, and documentation across concurrent assignments to maintain execution discipline.
Report Preparation & Documentation
- Prepare formal, client-ready reports — feasibility studies, DPR chapters, evaluation reports — in structured, qualified Word/PPT format under the Technical Director's guidance.
- Consolidate multi-consultant inputs (technical, financial, coastal, market) into a single coherent report narrative.
- Prepare presentation decks, summary notes, and internal review documents as required.
- Maintain version control and a structured document/knowledge repository for ongoing and completed assignments.
Process & Continuous Learning
- Progressively build working knowledge of shipyard/port infrastructure planning, DPR/feasibility study structures, and maritime industry fundamentals.
- Learn and apply AI-assisted research and document-drafting tools as introduced by the organisation to improve turnaround and quality.
Educational Background (in order of preference)
- Naval Architecture / Marine Engineering graduate + MBA, with some work experience in a port or shipyard environment; OR
- Engineering graduate (any discipline) + MBA, with 1–2 years of experience in the marine/shipyard sector; OR
- Graduate (any discipline) + MBA, with relevant experience in DPR preparation / feasibility studies within an EPC or infrastructure consulting environment.
Experience
- 2–5 years of total post-MBA experience.
- Exposure to report-heavy, deadline-driven environments (consulting, EPC, infrastructure planning) is valued; direct maritime experience is preferred but not mandatory.
