We have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as Financial Controller, reporting to the Finance Director and overseeing an entire country;this full time and permanent position is based in Mumbai, India and offers regional coverage, allowing you to make a significant impact to our European Finance team and its growth.
Purpose of the role:
We are looking for a Financial Controller (Senior Manager) to join the Finance Team, providing financial controllership over a European business of Vistra, a leading global fund administration, trust and corporate services provider, remotely from Mumbai. The candidate will report to the Finance Director and be a key member of the Vistra Finance Controllership Team.
- The role regularly interfaces with the Europe Finance Team, Shared Services Accounting Team and Global Finance. This is a hands-on financial controllership role with direct ownership of the European entity balance sheet, and will be responsible for core accounting, reporting, treasury and tax functions, including month-end closing, general ledger reconciliations, other accounting operations functions, treasury, tax provisions and related accounting, intercompany transaction accounting and payroll review. This position provides opportunity for growth as well as a broad view of all accounting across this European business and exposure to Vistra Global.
Key responsibilities:
- Conducts or supervises the day-to-day accounting activities and accounting operational functions including revenue accounting/recognition, billing reconciliation, cash, accounts payable, intercompany transactions, expense accruals,
other asset and liability accounting and payroll.
- Effectively leads and manages month-end, year-end close processes including meeting month-end general ledger close deadlines, financial reporting and supplementary schedules/analysis deadlines, and holds sign-off authority for the reconciliation and sign-off of all balance sheet accounts, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and integrity of all balance sheet positions by established deadlines.
- End-to-end management of the external audit process – including audit planning, preparation of audit files, managing auditor timelines and queries, resolving findings, and ensuring timely sign-off. This is a leadership role in audit, not a reactive one; the role holder proactively drives the audit cycle and manages the auditor relationship.
- Recommend and develop improvements to company's revenue accounting, including revenue accruals and deferred revenue accounting entries. Develop improved methodologies and supporting schedules for monthly revenue, accrued revenue balance and deferred revenue balances.
- Prepare tax provisions for book reporting purposes and record corresponding accounting entries, including deferred tax items. Collaborate with external tax professionals on forecasting tax estimates and issuing tax payments. Provide financial reports and supporting schedules to external tax professional for preparation of annual filings.
- Provide support with insightful analysis on monthly financial results (e.g. deep dive analysis on key revenues and expenses, month vs. month variances).
- Perform treasury functions, including monitoring of all cash activity, preparation of monthly cash flow projections and executing/approving vendor payments and bank transfers
- Play an active role with general ledger system conversion (to SAP S/4HANA) and related accounting process changes
- Lead role in setting SOPs, deliverables and expectations of Vistra Shared service teams performing accounting operations on behalf of Vistra European entities – i.e. client billing and accounts payable related to vendors performing services on behalf of Vistra European entities clients. Regularly communicate and work with shared service team leads to ensure work completed meet established requirements so that resulting accounting activity, entries, and reports are accurate, complete and timely.
- Full ownership of the entity balance sheet – ensuring accuracy, completeness, and integrity of all balance sheet positions including reconciliations, provisions, and intercompany balances.
Key Requirements:
- Qualified Chartered Accountant (mandatory)
- 5+ years in a financial controllership or senior accounting role with direct team leadership
- SAP S/4HANA knowledge will be an added advantage
- Proven track record of proactively managing external audits end-to-end, including auditor relationship management and audit sign-off
- Commitment and ability to meet deadlines associated with the month-end close and with numerous recurring and ad-hoc deliverables during the month
- Proven ability to effectively manage multiple deliverables, including recurring work and projects
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and reconciliation skills
- High proficiency with Office 365 [Word, Excel and PowerPoint]. Ability to work with large data files with advanced Excel skills is required.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills; excellent attention to detail
- Works effectively and collaboratively with teams that interface with the Controller's group, including the Global Finance team
- High degree of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality
- Demonstrated experience owning and signing off an entity-level balance sheet
- Experience with Swiss statutory accounting, regulatory requirements, or Swiss-domiciled entities is preferred, or otherwise another European territory
