In India, Jhpiego works with national and state governments across many states on family planning, maternal and child health, stronger health workforces, and non-communicable diseases. This role sits within Jhpiego's One Health surveillance project, which strengthens the systems that track acute febrile illness and acute diarrheal disease through coordination, training, and better laboratory practice.

Role





The Laboratory Technician / Assistant supports the field and laboratory work behind surveillance of acute febrile illness (AFI) and acute diarrheal disease (ADD). The work covers helping enrol patients, collecting and transporting specimens, running laboratory tests, and keeping records accurate and complete. The person in this role works closely with clinicians, surveillance teams, and laboratory staff so that results are timely, reliable, and in line with approved protocols, testing algorithms, and biosafety standards.

Responsibilities

Support clinicians and surveillance staff in enrolling eligible patients as set out in the study protocol.
Collect clinical specimens as per protocol, including blood, throat swab, urine, and stool.
Label specimens correctly, complete requisition forms, and follow the informed consent process.
Follow standard precautions and biosafety procedures during collection, handling, and transport.
