Forward Deployed Data Engineer

We are seeking a talented individual to join our Innovation & Advanced Analytics (IAA) team at Marsh. This role will be based in Gurugram/Noida. This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office.

The Forward Deployed Data Engineer is a high-autonomy, AI-enabled engineer embedded within an innovation pod to solve business-critical data problems end-to-end. This role is responsible for taking loosely defined requirements and independently translating them into scalable, production-ready data solutions from understanding source systems and shaping data models to building pipelines and provisioning application-ready data layers.
Working closely with pod stakeholders and technical leads, the Forward Deployed Data Engineer is expected to move quickly, make sound engineering decisions with minimal supervision, and build data assets that directly support analytics applications, APIs, and business use cases.

We will count on you to:
Design, build, and maintain end-to-end data pipelines across the Marsh data ecosystem, from source ingestion through transformation and provisioning into application-ready layers.
Contribute to the design of data models, source structures, and silver/gold-layer schemas to support analytical and application use cases.
Write production-grade SQL and engineering logic for data transformation, aggregation, and provisioning at scale.
Ensure data is structured appropriately for downstream consumption by applications, APIs, analytics workflows, and user-facing solutions.
Implement data quality controls, validation checks, reconciliation logic, and exception-handling patterns across the pipeline.
Independently investigate data issues, source discrepancies,



and schema gaps, and resolve them without reliance on highly detailed specifications.
Rapidly develop working knowledge of the relevant business domain, including Health & Benefits concepts where applicable, to make informed data engineering and modelling decisions.
Use AI-enabled tools and engineering workflows to accelerate development, troubleshooting, and delivery.
Support continuous improvement of data assets, pipelines, and engineering practices within the pod.

What you need to have:
Strong experience in data engineering, including design and delivery of production-grade pipelines and data assets.
Deep experience with Databricks and modern relational data platforms, including Delta Lake, Spark SQL, Unity Catalog, and medallion architecture.
Solid SQL skills, including complex joins, window functions, large-scale aggregations, and performance optimisation.
Experience with Python for data engineering, including PySpark and pandas.
Demonstrated ability to operate independently, make technical decisions quickly, and deliver with minimal supervision.
