This is a leadership role in our engineering team – not just a cog in the wheel. This is not a “maintenance” role. This is engineering leadership—owning the backend architecture of a global, privacy-first communication platform. You’ll lead by example, guide a high-calibre team, and ensure our backend systems remain blazing-fast, rock-solid, and uncompromising on security. You’ll be at the intersection of code and leadership—mentoring engineers, driving architectural decisions, and setting engineering standards that define how a global product is built.

Key Responsibilities
- Architect backend systems in NestJS and Golang to meet global scale and enterprise-grade performance.
- Drive design for microservices, real-time comms (WebSockets, WebRTC), and data stores (PostgreSQL, Redis).
- Lead code reviews, enforce coding standards, and maintain CI/CD discipline.
- Mentor and upskill backend engineers.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with frontend, DevOps, and product leaders.
- Own technical problem-solving—anticipate bottlenecks, make hard calls,



and prevent tech debt from being parked for “later.”
- Manage task allocation, workflow discipline, and ensure smooth collaboration with frontend and DevOps.

Requirements
- 7+ years in backend engineering, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
- Expertise in Golang and Node.js (NestJS).
- Solid database tuning skills (PostgreSQL, Redis).
- Solid understanding of Docker, Kubernetes, and scalable deployment.
- Experience building real-time systems at scale.
- Proven ability to lead technical discussions and inspire engineering teams.
- Track record of shipping production-grade, high-performance systems.
