UAV Test PilotFixed-Wing & Multi-Rotor • Flight Test TeleBortiX is building state-of-the-art airborne systems.
You are the person who takes our aircraft into the air. You'll fly our prototypes and platforms — fixed-wing, multi-rotor, and the hybrid and VTOL configurations in between — by hand when it counts and through the ground station when it doesn't. You'll run flight-test campaigns end to end: brief the cards, manage the range, watch the telemetry, take over when the autopilot misbehaves, and come back with clean data and an honest debrief.
When a current airframe flies for the first time, you're on the sticks.
This is a hands-on flight-test role. Safety over schedule, judgment over bravado — you make conservative, defensible go/no-go calls and own the outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and fly flight-test campaigns across fixed-wing, multi-rotor, and VTOL/hybrid platforms — first flights, envelope expansion, and handling and performance assessment.
- Hand-fly manual take-off, landing, and recovery; operate autonomous missions through the ground control station (ArduPilot / PX4, Mission Planner / QGroundControl).
- Build and fly flight-test cards with the engineering team; set pass/fail and abort criteria, and fly to the plan.
- Coordinate and obtain the clearances needed ahead of each flight, as and when required — approvals from local authorities and airspace owners, DGCA permissions, and any NOTAMs — all in place before you fly.
- Manage the flight line and range: site selection, staying within approved airspace, weather calls, and go/no-go decisions.
- Prepare the aircraft and run the pre-flight: fuel or charge it, check and manage batteries, run RF/RC and telemetry link tests, verify control surfaces, failsafes, and payload, and complete the pre-flight checklist to compliance before every flight — plus the post-flight inspection and shutdown after.
- Monitor telemetry and aircraft health in real time; recognise and respond to failures — control, propulsion, power, link loss, GPS.
- Capture, log,
and hand back flight data; debrief honestly and feed observations straight back to design.
- Support airframe integration, control tuning (params, PID, failsafes), and pre-flight bench checks — the credible secondary that makes a pilot valuable on a small team.
- Keep the aircraft flight-ready between sorties: airframe inspection, prop/rotor checks, and coordination with the shop on repairs.
- Operate within TeleBortiX's flight-test and safety framework; own risk assessment, emergency procedures, and honest incident reporting.
Requirements Mandatory: you must hold a valid DGCA Remote Pilot Certificate (RPC / RPAS licence) for the relevant class of operations. Applications without it will not be considered.
Beyond that, candidates should meet three of the five criteria below to apply.
- Demonstrated hands-on flying competency on both fixed-wing and multi-rotor UAS — you can hand-fly and recover both, not just launch an auto mission — OR demonstrated equivalent through logged hours, competition, or prior flight-test work.
- Experience operating a ground control station and planning autonomous missions (ArduPilot / PX4, Mission Planner / QGroundControl).
- Enough understanding of UAS airframes and systems — propulsion, power, links, autopilot — to pre-flight, diagnose, and make a sound go/no-go call.
- You've flown prototypes or non-standard aircraft, or otherwise operated where the aircraft's behaviour wasn't guaranteed.
- Genuine ownership and judgment — conservative, defensible decisions; safety over schedule.
Note: We welcome strong candidates from adjacent backgrounds — competition FPV and drone racing, aeromodelling, defence UAS operations,
or manned aviation transitioning to UAS. If you fall short of the criteria but your skills strongly align, make the case in your application note.
Strongly preferred
- Heavy-lift or large-category UAS experience (>25 kg).
- VTOL, hybrid, or transition flying — tail-sitter, tilt, or lift-plus-cruise.
- FPV proficiency and manual, acro-level stick skills for recovery.
- Autopilot setup and tuning — ArduPilot / PX4 parameters, PID, failsafes.
- Field maintenance and airframe integration experience.
- DGCA regulatory familiarity — UAS Rules, airspace zones (Green / Yellow / Red), BVLOS.
- Manned flying experience is greatly valued — microlight and light-aircraft time especially. The airmanship, weather judgment, and go/no-go discipline transfer directly; a PPL / CPL / ATPL is a strong plus.
- Data-driven debriefing and flight-log analysis (dataflash / ULog review).
Tools & standards Ground stations (Mission Planner / QGroundControl) • autopilots (ArduPilot / PX4) • RC and telemetry links • flight-log analysis • flight-test cards and safety procedures • DGCA UAS Rules and RPC framework.
Org Structure You will report directly to the Director, Engineering. You will work closely with the Aerodynamics Lead (handling, performance), the Powertrain architect (propulsion, power), the Design Engineer(s), and the Production & Prototyping Lead (airframe readiness).
About TeleBortiX We build state-of-the-art airborne systems. Our engineering team is small and multi-skilled. We hire for skills, not for job titles. Every engineer here owns one primary cluster and a credible secondary.
Location, compensation, and how to apply Location: Bengaluru — flight operations at designated test sites. Compensation: Commensurate with experience; equity component negotiable. To apply: Send your CV and a note on the most challenging thing you've flown — the aircraft, the conditions, and how you handled it. Logged hours, video, or logs welcome if you have them.
