Position: GM- Transport - Business Operations

Summary To lead and manage the Transport Business as an independent profit centre by providing strategic and operational leadership across fleet operations, finance, maintenance, customer and stakeholder management, safety, compliance, digital systems and people development. The role is accountable for maximizing fleet utilization, operational efficiency, profitability, regulatory compliance, customer satisfaction and continuous improvement while delivering sustainable business growth and operational excellence

Roles & Responsibilities

1. Drive safe, efficient and profitable fleet operations by optimizing vehicle utilization, route planning, truck allocation and turnaround time to ensure timely customer service and maximum asset productivity.
2. Manage end-to-end fleet operations including vehicle deployment, driver planning, trip execution, fuel management, toll monitoring, GPS tracking and operational control to achieve business and service objectives.
3. Improve transport profitability by controlling fuel consumption, maintenance, repair, tyre, toll, manpower and other operating costs through data-driven analysis and continuous process improvements.
4. Lead fleet maintenance and asset management by implementing preventive and predictive maintenance practices, monitoring vehicle health, minimizing breakdowns and maximizing fleet availability and asset life.
5. Ensure statutory, customer and safety compliance by maintaining vehicle documents, permits, inspections, certifications and operational standards in line with OMC requirements, legal regulations and company policies.
6. Strengthen operational excellence by developing, implementing and monitoring SOPs, internal controls, ERP (Zoho), GPS systems and digital processes to improve efficiency, transparency and operational governance.
7. Develop and manage transport manpower by planning driver deployment,



monitoring productivity, conducting safety and compliance training, improving performance and fostering a culture of accountability and secure operations.
8. Support business growth and customer satisfaction by ensuring timely vehicle availability for existing and new customers, maintaining service levels, reducing detention time and responding proactively to operational requirements.
9. Monitor operational performance through MIS and analytics by preparing accurate dashboards, aging reports, fleet performance reports, cost analysis and departmental P&L;, enabling informed business decisions and continuous improvement.
10. Drive continuous improvement initiatives by identifying operational gaps, eliminating process inefficiencies, reducing operational risks and implementing best practices to enhance productivity, profitability and overall transport performance.

Required Qualification and experience

· Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (DME) / B.E. – Mechanical Engineering

· MBA in Operations / Logistics / Supply Chain / Business Management will be an added advantage.

· Minimum 7+ years of relevant experience in Transport / Fleet / Logistics Operations.

· Proven experience in managing 200+ commercial vehicles.

· Minimum 3+ years of experience in team handling and people management is mandatory.

· Experience in LPG / hazardous goods transportation will be an added advantage.
