Job PurposeTo provide safe, reliable and timely driving services for official vehicles, supporting department staff, visitors, project teams and operational activities. The role also involves transportation of farm equipment/materials, travel support, vehicle documentation and basic administrative coordination related to transportation and vehicle maintenance. This position under Outsourced Rolls.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive official vehicles safely and efficiently for department staff, visitors, researchers and other authorized personnel.
- Transport staff and visitors to in office, on-farm, field and project locations as required.
- Provide transportation support for official meetings, workshops, training programs and visits to different project locations.
- Transport farm equipment, tools, materials and other authorized items between different locations.
- Provide necessary assistance and support to staff and visitors during official travel, workshops and field activities.
- Follow all applicable traffic rules, institutional vehicle policies and road-safety procedures.
- Maintain professional conduct and demonstrate good driving skills, road discipline and safe driving practices at all times.
- Conduct routine checks of the assigned vehicle, including fuel, tyres, lights, brakes, engine oil and other basic operating conditions.
- Maintain accurate vehicle logbooks, trip sheets, fuel records, service records and other required vehicle documentation.
- Report vehicle defects, breakdowns, accidents and maintenance requirements promptly to the concerned supervisor.
- Coordinate and follow up on vehicle servicing, repairs, preventive maintenance and other related requirements.
- Maintain cleanliness and proper upkeep of the assigned vehicle.
- Support office administrative activities related to transportation, vehicle scheduling, documentation and logistics.
- Assist in coordinating vehicle requirements for meetings, workshops,
field visits and other institutional events.
- Ensure that vehicles are adequately fuelled and available for scheduled official duties.
- Handle official documents, equipment or materials responsibly during transportation.
- Maintain confidentiality and professional behaviour while transporting staff, visitors and official materials.
- Perform other transportation, logistics and administrative duties assigned by the supervisor.
Safety & Compliance Responsibilities
- Strictly adhere to traffic laws, defensive-driving practices and institutional safety guidelines.
- Ensure the safety of passengers, equipment and materials during transportation.
- Avoid unsafe driving practices, including speeding, distracted driving and unauthorized use of vehicles.
- Immediately report accidents, near misses, vehicle damage or safety concerns.
- Ensure that the vehicle has valid registration, insurance, pollution certificate and other required statutory documents, as applicable.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 10th/12th standard qualification or equivalent.
- Valid driving licence appropriate for the light and heavy motor vehicles.
- Minimum 3–5 years of relevant driving experience, preferably in an institutional, research, agricultural, corporate or similar work environment.
- Experience in driving on farm roads, field locations and rural/off-road conditions would be an advantage.
- Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance, fuel management and vehicle documentation.
- Basic communication and interpersonal skills.
