Work Schedule: This is an on-site role offering two days off per week, which falls on Monday and Tuesday

Role Purpose

- To support British Council India teachers to deliver quality teaching in our Adult and Young Learner classrooms and contribute to their overall professional development.
- To support the delivery of high-quality services for our adult and young learner classes, working closely with the Academic, Operations, Marketing and Sales and Customer Management teams.
- To contribute to and implement IndiaTeaching Centre strategy and objectives in order to meet income and impact targets and enhance British Council’s reputation in India as an expert provider of ELT.
- To support the wider aims of British Council and its cultural relations mission.

Main Accountabilities:

1. Teaching responsibilities:

1.1. Plan, prepare and deliver high-quality English language teaching that meets the needs of different customer groups considering individual learning styles; delivery hours determined by business needs 1.2. Monitor progress and provide regular feedback to help manage students’ performance throughout the course, and actively promote learner autonomy

1.3. Contribute to the development, evaluation, and improvement of English language courses, materials and related services, in order to meet students’ needs by actively working as a member of the teaching team

1.4. Complete teaching related administrative tasks to specified standards

1.5. Actively engage in career development and performance management to ensure quality and high standards in teaching and learning, and maintain British Council’s position at the forefront of best ELT practices

1.6. Contribute to the development of lasting, mutually beneficial relationships by enhancing students’ understanding of contemporary UK

1.7.



Support local marketing and promotional strategy, and assist the teaching centre team in delivering excellent customer service

2. Academic Management responsibilities:

2.1. Support the Senior Teacher, and the Cluster/Regional/Global Teaching Excellence and AL/YL Product teams in implementing the Teaching Excellence Action Plan (TEAP), product roll outs and other academic projects

2.2. Assist the Senior Teacher in academic management of the Teaching Centre, proactively participating in both planning and implementation

2.3. Contribute to the smooth running of Adult and Young Learner courses by:

2.3.1. Keeping teachers up to date on AL & YL products, resources and course procedures

2.3.2. Supporting teachers with lesson planning, classroom management issues and identifying training needs

2.3.3. Facilitating the planning and implementation of campaigns and activities to raise customers’ awareness of products, learning and progress made by adult and young learners

2.3.4. Monitoring, evaluating and reviewing resources to support and improve the quality and learning and teaching

2.3.5. Observing UK or local copyright laws (whichever is stronger)

2.3.6. Liaising with Customer Service Manager and Operations Manager to provide product updates

2.4. Line-manage up to 6 teachers in accordance with line management and performance enablement policies and procedures

3. Training responsibilities:

3.1. Identifying, planning and resourcing internal teacher training activities, sessions and courses in line with teachers' needs 3.2. Delivering, and facilitating the management and delivery of external teacher training courses (e.g. TYLEC, DELTA etc.) in accordance with course guidelines

4. Safeguarding responsibilities:

4.1. Ensure that team members are aware of the safeguarding policy and resources available and provide advice and short awareness. 4.2. Provide advice and support on Safeguarding standard and policy to their respective team when required.

4.3.



Act as first point of contact for Safeguarding concerns, and escalate concerns to the National Safeguarding Manager immediately/within 24 hours of first knowledge

4.4. Identify Safeguarding related risks includes children and adult at-risk related risks from their working area and feed this information into the creation of a sector‐wide Safeguarding Action Plan.

4.5. Ensure successful implementation of Safeguarding action plan activities relevant for their working areas.

4.6. Participates in learning and development activities (both online and offline) related to the role of Safeguarding Focal Point.

Language Requirements

- High proficiency in English i.e. full mastery of English across all 4-skills equivalent to user (CEFR C2) IELTS Band 8/9 in each of 4 sections of the academic module.
- The British Council systems and global processes operate in English. Written and verbal proficiency in English is required.

Qualifications

Minimum/essential

- Cambridge CELTA/Trinity Cert TESOL or equivalent
- Recognised diploma in EFL (i.e. DELTA/Trinity DipTESOL)

Desirable

- TYLEC or YL extension to CELTA
- Relevant postgraduate qualification (MA) (TESOL, Applied Linguistics, Education etc.)

Role specific knowledge and experience

- 4 years’/2400 hours of teaching experience post certificate (i.e. CELTA/Trinity certTESOL), including 400 hours of Primary courses (7-11 years), 400 hours of Secondary courses (12-17 years), and 800 with Adult courses.
- Ability to effectively communicate with and engage children and their families.

Desirable

- Experience of teaching MyClass, IELTS Coach, PBS courses, Secondary Plus and Primary Plus
- Experience of mentoring, line management and delivering in-service training
- Knowledge and understanding of child development and its impact on behaviour.
