Main Purpose

Responsible for leading Electrical Engineering, Project Management, Erection & Commissioning, and Operations & Maintenance activities for electrical systems and infrastructure. The role will be responsible for project planning and execution, budget and resource management, engineering and technical evaluation, procurement support, statutory coordination, construction supervision, commissioning, reliability improvement, troubleshooting, and steady-state support of electrical systems across the project/site. The role will also lead the Electrical function, ensuring safe, reliable, cost-effective, and compliant operations.

Job Accountabilities

- Lead the planning, engineering, execution, erection, testing, and commissioning of electrical systems for greenfield/brownfield projects and operational facilities.
- Manage electrical project activities covering HV/EHV substations, switchyards, transmission and distribution networks, transformers, HT/LT switchgear, motors, drives, electrical utilities, and plant electrical systems.
- Prepare project plans, resource requirements, and execution strategies, and monitor progress against time, cost, quality, safety, and statutory compliance parameters.
- Prepare and control CAPEX/OPEX and annual maintenance budgets, including planning and monitoring the procurement of electrical equipment, spares, and services.
- Lead the preparation of technical specifications, RFP/RFQ documents, tender evaluation, technical scrutiny, and vendor/OEM finalization for electrical equipment and services.
- Coordinate with Procurement, Supply Chain, Engineering, Projects, Construction, and other stakeholders to ensure timely procurement and delivery of critical electrical materials and equipment.
- Review and evaluate electrical engineering drawings, SLDs, protection schemes, equipment specifications, load schedules, cable schedules, layouts, BOQs, and other technical documents.
- Coordinate with consultants, OEMs, contractors, and statutory authorities for engineering finalization, approvals, execution, and resolution of technical issues.
- Undertake site visits and supervise construction, erection, testing, pre-commissioning, and commissioning of electrical systems, ensuring adherence to approved engineering standards and HSE requirements.
- Lead the commissioning and start-up of electrical systems, including 220/400 kV switchyards, transformers, HT/LT switchgear, transmission lines, distribution systems, motors, drives, PLC-based systems,



and auxiliary electrical systems.
- Ensure effective preventive, predictive, corrective, and shutdown maintenance of electrical assets to achieve high equipment availability, reliability, and operational continuity.
- Lead troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions for electrical breakdowns and recurring equipment failures, coordinating with OEMs wherever required.
- Develop and implement SOPs, SMPs, maintenance strategies, asset management, and condition-monitoring practices for critical electrical equipment.
- Ensure compliance with applicable statutory requirements and coordinate with relevant authorities/utilities for power connectivity, approvals, charging permissions, and other statutory clearances.
- Participate in technical reviews, HAZOP/risk assessments, and interdisciplinary meetings wherever electrical interfaces are involved, ensuring timely closure of actions.
- Drive energy efficiency, cost optimization, reliability improvement, process improvement, and Kaizen initiatives within the Electrical function.
- Ensure effective management of electrical spares, inventory, maintenance contracts, and annual shutdown requirements.
- Support project close-out, preparation of technical reports, asset handover documentation, and transition of commissioned systems to O&M.;
- Lead, mentor, and develop the Electrical team, promote a strong safety culture, and ensure effective manpower deployment and performance management.

Skills Required

- Strong technical and functional expertise in Electrical Project Management, Erection & Commissioning, and Operations & Maintenance of industrial and power infrastructure.
- Well-versed in HV/EHV electrical systems, substations, switchyards, transformers, HT/LT switchgear, transmission and distribution networks, motors, drives, and electrical protection systems.
- Robust understanding of the engineering, execution, and maintenance of 220/400 kV systems, power generation, and distribution networks for industrial electrical installations.
- Hands-on experience in project planning, technical specifications, tender/RFP preparation, vendor evaluation, procurement, and contract execution.




- Ability to review and interpret Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), electrical layouts, load schedules, protection schemes, cable schedules, equipment specifications, and technical drawings.
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical capabilities for electrical equipment and systems, including coordination with OEMs for complex technical issues.
- Cross-functional knowledge of Mechanical, Instrumentation & Controls, Civil, Projects, Operations, and HSE disciplines.
- Knowledge of PLC/SCADA-based electrical control and monitoring systems, numerical relays, and digital protection systems.
- Familiarity with SAP/ERP-based maintenance, procurement, and material management processes and MIS/reporting systems.
- Strong knowledge of HSE requirements, statutory compliance, PTW/LOTO systems, electrical safety, and safe maintenance practices.
- Strong leadership, stakeholder management, communication, negotiation, and team-building skills.

Qualification

- Graduate Engineer (B.E./B.Tech) in Electrical Engineering from a recognized university/institute.
- Energy Audit certification, if any, will be an added advantage.

Experience

- Minimum 18–20 years of relevant experience in Electrical Engineering, Project Management, Erection & Commissioning, and Operations & Maintenance in Power, Mining, Metals, Oil & Gas, Infrastructure, or other process industries.
- Should have demonstrated experience in managing large-scale electrical projects and/or electrical O&M; functions, including HV/EHV substations, switchyards, transmission/distribution systems, and industrial electrical installations.
- Experience in greenfield project execution, commissioning, and transition to steady-state O&M; will be preferred.
- Experience in leading multidisciplinary teams and managing costs, budgets, resources, contractors, vendors, and statutory interfaces is essential.
- Exposure to coal/mining electrical power generation and distribution networks, coal handling plants, thermal power plants, or large industrial utilities will be an added advantage.

Preferred Profile

- Proven leadership experience in heading an Electrical function with responsibility for project execution as well as operational reliability.
- Strong track record in greenfield project execution, commissioning, maintenance excellence, cost optimization, and team leadership.
- Experience in managing interfaces with power utilities, statutory authorities, OEMs, consultants, and EPC contractors.
