Role Description
At Meshnet Electronics we're building a 5G connectivity hub on embedded Linux from the ground up for board bring-up to shipping firmware. You'll own core firmware and low-level software for the platform, working closely with hardware and product from the very first prototype. Once the hub ships, you'll help extend the same expertise to an Android-based mobile device, so this is a long-term role with a growing scope.
What You'll Do
- Bring up new hardware: bootloader (U-Boot), kernel, and board support packages on ARM SoCs
- Build and maintain a custom Linux distribution using Yocto / OpenEmbedded (or Buildroot)
- Write and debug Linux device drivers and kernel modules (I2C, SPI, UART, USB, PCIe, GPIO)
- Integrate and validate 5G/LTE modems and cellular connectivity stacks (QMI/MBIM, Modem Manager, RIL)
- Develop networking and hub features: routing, Wi-Fi, firewall, OTA update, and device management
- Optimize for performance, power, thermal, and boot time on constrained hardware
- Debug at the hardware level using JTAG, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and serial consoles
- Own the firmware release process: CI, versioning, secure boot, and OTA delivery
- Later: contribute to Android platform / HAL / BSP work for a companion mobile device
Qualifications
- 5+ years in embedded firmware / embedded Linux development
- Strong C (and ideally C++); comfortable in a Linux userspace + kernel setting
- Hands-on board bring-up experience on ARM (Cortex-A) SoCs
- Linux device driver development and kernel debugging
- Build systems: Yocto/OpenEmbedded or Buildroot
- Bootloader experience (U-Boot) and understanding of the Linux boot flow
- Solid grasp of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, routing, DHCP, NAT)
- Comfortable reading schematics and datasheets, and debugging with hardware tools
- Applied knowledge of Electrical Engineering concepts relevant to embedded system design and hardware-software integration.
- Advanced Debugging skills for diagnosing and resolving issues across firmware, hardware interfaces, and system performance.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
Additional Skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams and mentor junior team members
- Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills, with a focus on reliability and safety in embedded designs.
