Position Summary

HCA Healthcare is looking for an experienced and creative Data Modeler to lead the design and implementation of scalable, secure, and high-performance data products on Google Cloud. In this role, you will be at the forefront of transforming raw data into actionable insights by creating robust architectures that integrate seamlessly into our enterprise ecosystem.

The Data Modeler will play a critical role in bridging the gap between business needs and technical solutions. You will work closely with Data Product Owners to understand product requirements, ensure alignment with business goals, and design solutions that meet operational and analytical needs.

This position requires a deep understanding of the architecture of business data source systems, their structures, communication protocols, and interfaces. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a mastery of data analysis, logical data modeling, and the ability to identify opportunities for data reuse and transformation. You will design data architectures that address gaps, optimize performance, and enforce enterprise standards in cybersecurity, governance, and compliance.

As a key contributor to HCA’s data strategy, you will also develop and maintain a comprehensive data architecture roadmap, ensuring alignment with business priorities and evolving technology trends. By integrating advanced analytics and machine learning capabilities, you will help HCA Healthcare maximize the value of its data to improve clinical outcomes and operational efficiency.

Major Responsibilities

Data Analysis & Logical Modeling

Define the strategic direction for enterprise data modeling

Lead enterprise-wide governance efforts for metadata, data contracts, and compliance

Develop AI-driven data models and semantic layers for business intelligence

Architect and oversee enterprise-wide data modeling initiatives

Oversee multi-cloud and hybrid data architecture initiatives

Provide thought leadership and innovation in data modeling

Lead the development of scalable data models for enterprise applications

Develop and enforce best practices for schema evolution and data interoperability

Drive standardization of best practices across data modeling teams

Work with stakeholders to implement data governance and security controls

Perform advanced data analysis to inform design decisions and ensure alignment with business needs.

Create logical data models or object models of moderate complexity to address business challenges.

Develop data modeling automation frameworks to enhance consistency

Implement advanced metadata management and data quality monitoring

Define data transformation requirements and implement efficient solutions.

Ensure data governance and security best practices are followed

Build automated validation processes for data integrity checks

Collaboration with Data Product Owners

Partner with domain owners to shape the organization’s data strategy

Partner with Data Product Owners to gather and refine requirements for data products.

Translate business needs into technical designs that align with organizational goals.

Drive adoption of standardized data modeling frameworks

Conduct stakeholder meetings to review and validate data models





Advocate for data quality and integrity across all projects

Business System Architecture Knowledge

Define best practices for multi-cloud and AI-driven data models

Ensure seamless integration across diverse data platforms

Demonstrate expertise in core business applications and support systems.

Understand and apply communication protocols and interfaces used by business systems to enable efficient data integration.

Ensure high availability and scalability in data models

Evaluate the adoption of modern data storage and processing paradigms

Oversee cloud data architecture across multiple business domains

Evaluate and recommend new data modeling tools and technologies

Optimize cloud data structures for performance and scalability.

Translate project-specific requirements into a cloud structure that meets those requirements, as well as taking into account the project’s resource use and scalability requirements.

Identifying & Addressing Data Gaps

Assess and identify gaps in data architecture, systems, and workflows.

Optimize data models for performance.

Establish guidelines for schema evolution and data interoperability

Recommend and implement changes to improve data quality, accessibility, and consistency.

Data Product Design & Integration

Design schemas and structures for data products that are robust, scalable, and secure.

Oversee the alignment of data products with AI, analytics, and business intelligence goals

Integrate data products with business systems, workflows, and analytical tools.

Ensure data products are optimized for machine learning, real-time analytics, and other advanced use cases.

Work closely with individuals across the technology organizations to help promote awareness of the data architecture and ensure that enterprise assets of competence are leveraged.

Identify the best cloud architecture options to help the firm accomplish its strategic goals.

Lead cross-functional initiatives to modernize data product strategies

Enterprise Standards & Governance

Maintain and enforce enterprise data architecture guidelines, including data governance, cybersecurity, metadata management, and auditability.

Define best practices for schema versioning and evolution

Establish enterprise data governance policies

Define industry-leading practices for data modeling automation

Collaborate with governance teams to enhance metadata management

Enforce enterprise-wide data modeling standards

Guide compliance teams on data retention and usage policies

Strategic Roadmapping

Work with senior member of the team and establish data architecture roadmap aligned with HCA’s strategic priorities.

Continuously evolve the architecture to address emerging technologies and business requirements.

Education & Experience:

Bachelor's degree Computer Science or a related field

Required

Master's degree Computer Science or a related field.

10+ years of experience in data management, data products, or analytics.

Proven ability to influence executives on data strategy

Extensive experience in designing data models for large-scale systems

Expertise in GCP architecture and BigQuery

Expertise in SQL optimization and data modeling techniques

Strong experience with version control systems

Strong ability to present complex technical concepts to leadership

Extensive experience in architecture, construction, and implementation of data-intensive solutions

Strong understanding of metadata management and data cataloging

Ability to analyze and interpret complex data, and offer solutions to complex clinical problems.

Hands-on experience with Python, GCP Dataflow and Cloud Composer.

Strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to explain complex technical issues in a way that non-technical people may understand.

Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

Knowledge of IT governance and operations.
