Responsibilities

- Lead the development, testing, and maintenance of parts of e6data's data lake query engine.
- Understand how to write performant code for modern hardware (understands how CPUs work and how to leverage them for best performance).
- Deep insight into how databases work - has worked on databases. Leverage this insight to own significant outcomes from design and implementation all the way to production.
- Keeps up-to-date with the changing world of databases and data processing - understands trends and advancements in modern databases.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the overall architectural decisions of the engine team.
- Is hands on and derives pleasure from solving problems directly.

Requirements

- Has familiarity with working on the cloud. Bonus if worked with cloud-friendly databases.
- Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and concurrent variants of them.
- Hands-on Design to production, Influence design of database, Passionate and up-to-date with technology.
- Cloud - have worked and am comfortable. Must-Have Skills:
- Deep understanding of database internals.
- Understands various components of a database like Optimizer, execution, and storage.
- Understands Algorithms like Join, Agg, etc.
- Strong understanding of performance engineering.
- Hardware concepts - using CPU caches, SIMD, etc.

Concurrency techniques

- Good understanding of data structures and algorithms.



Can choose the right data structure for a problem and can articulate performance characteristics of the structure - Good understanding of modern database trends.
- Understands modern trends like cloud-native databases, Separate compute from storage, etc.
- Is well read and keeps track of trends and reads research papers, blogs, etc.
- Has their own blog - big bonus.
- Hands on and willing to work in a startup environment.
- Someone deep in the weeds of the code base and writing code.
- Willing to work in a semi-chaotic setting like a startup.
- Familiarity with systems programming languages - Rust is a big plus.
